For those seriously interested in PVP, has anyone really had a chance to research to see what line would complement your characters overall developement the most? Pistol - Pistoleer OR rifle - (one of the rifle professions)?

Give me your input, as I first was hearing Pistols, now I hear alot of problems with pistoleer if you were taking that and not going for BH. For example, Im going Creature handler and was thinking of Pistoleer, but now been seriously thinking rifle might be the better line to take as my complement to creature handler....but not sure....whats everyones experiences so far????

well, I haven't had any "serious" experience, but from what I've seen thus far I'd say Rifles would be better for PVP because they have mind specials. You can't heal mind damage, so once you incap someone, they are down for the full duration [as opposed to say health wounds, which a medic could come by and heal to get you on you're feet again]

Also, most combat chars have low mind pools [ like brawlers and wookies and most everyone that isn't a medic], so it'd be easier to attack that attribute for most PCs

Of course, theres a lot more to consider, but this is my "at a glance" position

PS: as for CH complimenting, pets do health damage, so if you plan on using them for damage [eg not as meat shields] you'll probably want to stick to Pistols so you'll be doing the same DMG as them

Just browsing through, figured I would clear up one bit of misinformation. Pets do random damage, not health damage - tends to be more health and action than mind in my experience but that is probably just statistical noise. As a master CH I use a carbine, many others use a rifle, some use a pistol, some go melee - its all good in the end, stuff ends up dead

If your doing master creature handler your going to want to take up a profession that you can deal the most damage with. Some pets are ok as tanks, but you'll want to help them as much as you can. Pistoleer is at the bottom of the damage professions. Pick a profession that deals a lot of damage such as a rifleman.

Edit: Wow this original post is pretty old. I also skipped over the part that said PVP. I thought this was for PVE. Creature handler has changed a whole lot since this was posted. Nowadays almost any template can take out peoples pets pretty easily. You'll want to get a pet that has some specials such as intimidateand dizzy as you can spam this over and over and it usually works. There doesn't seem to be a timer on pet specials. Right now, only specials that flash above a pets head actually work. So if you have a pet with knockdown most likely you cannot tell it to do this special with reliability. Sometimes they will do it on their own, but very seldom.

That would be the problem, right there. Creature handling is a PVE deal. Not many professions are better at it, really. PVP wise though, well.... I would never tell anyone that something they wanted to try out should not be attempted, but I think you will find, that no matter which combat profession you try to compliment CH with, you will be quickly outclassed in PVP. Even with some very good BE pets, players simply behave in much more intelligent ways than computer MOBs. If I were going to suggest anything to compliment CH, it would be a melee profession. Treat those creatures as your ranged attack, and punish anyone that tries to get in close to knock you off with something like fencer, or heavy swords. GL.
