I read through a couple of the FAQs above which discuss the pros and cons of each pistoleer special. I notice that nobody is talking about Overcharge Shot.
Why aren't people using it? It's my best friend. I admit to knowing very little about advanced combat strategies. I'm trying to learn more now as I'm getting more into combat. I have 2 novice pistoleers, one on his way to combat medic, as well.
It seems that Body Shot 2 (and maybe 3) are favorites. I've always ignored Body Shot 1 (which I have from Marksman). I figure, the pistol is inclined to hit the Health Pool, why waste my shot on a special that gives no extra bonus other than to ensure a health hit, which I'm likely to get anyway? Especially considering that Overcharge Shot 1 is gonna do 3-4 times the damage.
Once I read the FAQs, I figured, oh, I must be missing something. Body Shot must alos give a damage bonus similar to Overcharge Shot. But after testing some yesterday and studying the combat log, it doesn't look that way at all. With a socut blaster, I was hitting 700-1000 with Overcharge Shot 1, but only 150-250 with Body Shot 1.
So what am I missing? Is Body Shot 2 that much better that it exceeds Overcharge 1 and 2? Are people just hesitant to lose their gun earlier?
Thanks.

overcharge shot is no more damaging than kip up shot or rollshot, only it decays your gun MUCH faster than normal attacks
unless you don't like your pistols, i wouldn't reccomend using it

I knew someone would say that, see the last line of my post. I'd rather buy new guns more frequently in exchange for 4 times the damage. Do most pistoleers disagree?

read the first line of my post..... kip up shot and rollshot have the SAME damage modifier but the delay is LESS
so overcharge shot is slower and not anymore damaging than those attacks
there is no reason to use overcharge shot unless you are grinding with out novice marksman

Our posture specials (Kip up, Roll, Diving Shot) do not have defensive modifiers, as near as anyone can tell. Only the "Tumble to xxxx" specials from the Ranged Support line do.. though not much.
Sadly enough, Kip Up Shot has almost the same DPS as Stopping Shot at master level...

Oh, this is new to me, too: Specials have speeds? So when Kevie says that "overcharge shot is slower," that means that Overcharge Shot is sitting in my combat que longer than other specials?
Where you getting this info? I wish there was a manual instead of a forum.

using overcharge shot earlier in your career is fine. when a scout of FWG5 cost you only 10-20k. you can afford to grind through guns every week. But people dont want to destroy their one of kind or pre nerf weapons. some of those weapons are either very very expensive or simply dont exist anymore.

Yup, every special has it's own delay. I haven't payed terribly close attention to it because we usually just spam 1 special over and over, but the delay seems to come after the special is fired, not before.

Kevie, I was responding to Sage, but the quote feature is gone.
So you'd advise alternating Roll Shot with Kip Up Shot? Would that have a significant defense disadvantage, or do those specials have defense bonuses? Where can I learn about these damage modifiers?
Thanks.
oh sorry lol
and try going here.... just type in your pistol's numbers and your speed mod and you'll see what specials are better

You're correct, the delay is after the shot. If you don't have any rifle or carbine skills (besides Novice Marksman) pick up a CDEF and fire any special and you'll see it clearly. It's hard to tell once you're high up in Pistoleer since the shots go so quickly.

Want to try something? Do an /exam on your gun and keep it open. Then attack something and spam overcharge shot and watch how quick the condition goes down. With overcharge shot 2 and my DH17 I lost 2 condition on each shot. Firing at cap I can make a mess of the gun FAST.
