i ran some tests before and came to the conclusion that it does work, what doesnt work is the melee toughness you get. You used to get all toughness and mitigation no matter what you were holding. The toughness is what really counts such asif you are master tka you are basically wearing 57% armor already when a vk is equipped.

Yeah, AFAIK mitigation is a passive modifier you get from having the appropriate skill boxes.
Unlike things like dodge, block, counter-attack etc ranged of melee mitigation work regardless of the weapon you are using.

AFAIK, the status on melee mitigation is tentative atm. Word around the pistoleer forum was that although it's *supposed* to work even with a ranged weapon equipped, it doesn't. I have personally never tested this, nor seen anyone test it, just a bunch of references to other posts (amoung one by the old pistoleer correspondent I never saw), so it could just be made up...
Anyone know, have tested it, or can figure out a way to test it?
That was posted on the Bh forum. I've heard both ways. Before anyone starts with the classic "melee mitigation only works when holding a melee weapon is equiped" remember that Smuglers get melee mitigation in their pistol line.....

Mitigation works regardless of what weapon is equipped. Toughness does not. It doesn't matter much, as they will be doing away with mitigation in the combat revamp.
