I'v finally finished Pistols IV and Ranged Support IV in Marksman; and wanting to push up into Pistoleer but my aim and accuracy just plain sucks, no matter what range I fire from.
It appears as though almost half of my shots are wild and way of aim, sometimes some of them even shooting off at a full 90 degree angle from where I am supposed to be shooting at.
I miss just about half of every shot.
I managed to get some accuracy and aiming CA's and AA's ... but nothing seems to help. My shots are still wild and all over the place and miss as much as they hit... its a 50/50 chance of hit or miss.
Now; I also have another character working on Rifles; who is at Rifles III in Markeman and Ranged Support II... and with that character, every shoot hits and never misses... unless I am at like -20m range. That character also has a custom rifle with a visible Stock, Scope and Barrel which I am sure greatly enhances the accuracy and punch of the rifle... but that character also has NO aiming or accuracy AA/CA stuff... the character is just relying on the Rifle... and they never miss.
So would adding something like a Scope to a Pistol make much difference? I have seen many such pistols on display in various Weaponsmith vendor shops and have considered having one crafted... Currently I am using the FWG5 and would have a custom version crafted with a visible Scope if it would help at all...
It is embarrassing watching my wild shots go all over the place except on the target when I am out hunting with my friends.. I am missing and shooting so wildly it sometimes makes me wonder if it is even worth trying to invest in Pistoleer...
I only did the Pistols because I am working on Smuggler and I was thinking that Pistoleer would make a great add on profession to use with Smuggler...
I have also tried using different Pistols and they all seem to be about the same... they shoot wild and miss a lot.
It does not matter if I am Standing still, Kneeling, or laying Prone...
HOWEVER; if I am shooting at a creature lair from a Mission... every single shot hits the Lair. Only if I am shooting at an animal/creature are my shots so wild and out of control.
Is this a common problem with Pistols and can anyone offer any advice?

I don't think it matters if you SEE the shots hit or miss. What matters is what is going on in your combat chat box. That will tell you if you hit, if you miss, your damage, etc.
But you will be pretty inaccurate until you gain pistoleer accuracy ( or Bounty Hunter pistol accuracy, which is even higher )
And as far as I know, you'll always hit lairs no matter what weapon you use.

Yes; my chat box TELLS me... that I am missing.. frequently, and it is annoying.
Where is Pistoleer Accuracy? I do not see it in the Pistoleer skill tree... I am looking at te Character Builder on AllakHazam by the way, trying to plan out a "roadmap" of a sorts for my character to follow and work towards.

the pistol you use probably has very bad range mods

Not sure what that means; but it was purchased from a Master Weaponsmith in my Guild whom a friend (in the same guild) heralded as being very good.

Ok I think I figured it out... on my FWG5.. it says...
Range Modifiers
Point Blank: 0 @ 0
Ideal: +23 @ 20
Max: -70 @ 64
What exactly does that mean and are those numbers good?

That means that at the weapons maximum range of 64m, you have aminus 70 accuracy penalty with that weapon. That's pretty bad (but can be a lot worse on some weapons). Try moving up to 20m from the target, or else going prone, and you'll see a huge increase in your accuracy (look at the number to the left of the target's HAM bars above its head). If you have a high player accuracy mod and/or accuracy skill tapes, you can overcome the weapon's poor accuracy. Not many pistols actually have a good accuracy mod at max range--you really need a good player accuracy mod if you expect to hit most every shot fired from that range. With my BH Pistols/Master Pistoleer template, I would very rarely miss a mob while standing, with my Modified Republic Blaster. With my DE-10, I miss a lot more and am trying to compensate now with accuracy tapes.

Ya, until you start getting pistoleer skills, your going to miss a lot. Look a little closer a the pistoleer skill tree, you'll see the "pistol accuracy" modifiers. I believe it is the second tree from the left that adds accuracy. CA's are only going to add a few points, you'll need more then a few points to see a real difference. Once you finish that second tree of pistoleer, you'll rarely miss. I'm master pistoleer and have Bounty hunter pistols and I literally never miss.
Also, those range numbers on your pistol tell you basically how far you want to stand from your target. +20 @ 20 for instance means that you have a +20 to your chance to hit when you are 20 meters from your target. -70 @ 60 means that you have a -70 reducting in chance to hit when you stand 60m from your target.
I highly recommend that you do pistols, as it's a great combo with Smuggler. You get some great specials with smuggler, but not the stats. You get the good pistol stats (plus some other good specials) with pistoleer.

Try kneeling and doing
/aim
/aim
And then a special. Helps a lot with accuracy.

Yes specially the special part, most (if not all) pistoleer specials has a built in extra accuracy making them hit a lot more than if you just leave it on default attack.

I've never bothered with the /aim command myself (even before I got BHpistols). It always seemed to me that in the span of time it takes to complete the aim command, you could be firing extra specials, and some of those extra specials will hit (on average). Personally I'd rather improve my accuracy with postures, ideal distance ranging,or skill tapes.
I know that's /aim is supposed tohelp a lot with accuracythough, and am curious if people who use it find that it's worth giving up a round or two of attacks.

Its more for heavier weapons, like commando weapons and the early stages of rifles.
For when you really, really, want to hit.
May be useful when grinding up marksman pistols too... nobody uses this once you have enough accuracy to hit most of the time though.
I did try it on a defence stacker once when I couldnt hit him...
Citrus Snow Cake
Dead Eye
/aim
/aim
/stopping shot
Does help.
