Thread: question from a carbineer...
Now that im a master carbineer and have seen first hand the suck-assness that is my profession i was wondering if some of you pistoleers could ease my transition into the master carbineer's most common act upon reaching master: surrendering carbines for pistols.
specifically i need to know on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the suckiest (ie carbineer) how bad do pistols suck? do you have any KD specials besides the melee range one? will i be able to solo a nest of diseased nunas? what are the best pistols to use as i climb the pistoleer tree?
i would be grateful for any other info you may provide as well.

as things stand if you master pistoleer without any other complimentry combat skills you will be very mediocre in both pve and pvp. the only thing pistoleer will do( at master level) is give you decent speed mods, good accuracy (dx2 is so inaccurate that you will still miss a lot if you are outside of mellee range) and a couple of decent specials , stopping shot ( powerful but random ham and very slow ,so only worth it after speed mods of master pistoleer) and fan shot ( an awesome aoe attack which is soon getting nerfed)
however if you combine pistoleer with either smuggler dirty fighting or bh pistol then you will have a template that is second to none.
p.s. if you are into pve i would suggest getting pistoleer/ smuggler because it will leave you with more skill points which will allow you to dabble in creature handler as well as feign death move which is incredibly helpfull for pve.
Pistols themselves are pretty good. Probably better than carbines due to the lower ham costs and greater variety of damage types (although the lack of an AP2 weapon is noteable).
Pistoleer is kinda meh. Most of the benefits are speed and accuracy, as the special movies are either so-so, or broken. The defensive stuff does very little, but that may change with the patch.
The only knockdown is pistol melee defense 1. Fanshot is currently an area attack, but i guess isn't supposed to be. The only intentaional area attack, multi target shot, is broke.
Everyone has already summed up my feelings, but I just thought I'd let the visiting Carbineers know that I realize that Carbineer has many problems right now and that I've mentioned that more than once in Correspondent forums. I think there are a lot of similarities between our two professions in terms of broken specials, etc. Hopefully we both get fixed soon.
The main difference is that Pistoleers can augment their pistol skills via more professions than carbineers.
1) Pistoleer/BH(Pistol line)- fastest pistol speeds, good specials, and the Scatter Pistol;
2) Pistoleer/Smuggler(Dirtyfighting line) - adds the smuggler pistol specials which are arguably more effective than the equivalent Pistoleer specials;
3) Pistoleer/BH(pistol line)/Smuggler(Dirtfighting line) - All of the above wrapped together
4) Pistoleer/Commando - Doesn't add any skills or mods but does give access to the Launcher Pistol which is better than the DX2 pistol. Added bonus of having access to Novice Level Commando heavy weapons for some serious up close punch.
5) Pistoleer/Commado/Smuggler - Last Ditch with a Launcher Pistol .... ewwwww.
Carbineers really only have Carbineer/BH(carbine line) to augment it's weaker specials.
Both professions are in the same shape in that they currently require dabbling in other combat professions to maximize their skill mods. Pistoleers just have more professions they can choose to get those augments from.
