Thread: Best armor for pistoleer?

As pistoleers we are usually in close range so do we protect the most against kinetic or do we protect against energy? What is the best armor to use as a pistoleer for under 200K? I'd need to buy a full suit and does anyone have any recommendations of where to get it?

since i don't k now what sever your on, if your on starsider, i found a pretty good place with 50-80 composite armor, you don't need armor for PvE "i do use my 74% helm when hunting 6-8 ST missions since they do hit your mind pool once in a while,

and you don't need a full set, chestplate, legging, helm i am able to put on my chestplate, legging, helm, boot's,gloves with out buff's or anything , its so great

I'm on the Intrepid server.

PvE (I think that is player versus engine?) does include NPC missions right? I get hammered by most of the Imperials with ranged weapons, so wouldn't I need a good set of armor? So you suggest just a chest plate, leggings, and helm?

I used to use ubese to protect against kinetic. I was being abused on Dathomir by the witches with the ubese. I got a set of 65% composite. I had to do a horrific stat migration to wear it and it really impedes my ability to do specials and heals. It protected me fairly well until recently. Now NPC's can one-shot incap you even while wearing good composite. They are using advanced specials now. So, I'm not sure what to tell you. I guess composite is still very good for PvP. The point is that there are going to be times when you will take shots that will put you down no matter what you are wearing.

I use 80/65 Adv Kinetic Composite on the helm, chest and pants and use 54/46 Lite Adv Composite on the boots, gloves, and arm parts. All of it is sliced for encumbrance. My stats are migrated for action and mind since I can't get my strenth up for wearing this suit anyways. Soo....

A bite of Thatico and my armor is on. A sip of a sunburn and I'm spam city. A hit of gold and I'm nearly unstoppable

I dont use armor the increased HAM cost per special while using armor does more damage to me then the people accually shotting at me. At master we have a (now) insane dodge level and and the accuracy while moving mods are quite nice. My advice leave the armor to the brawlers and keep moving.

SOE is not stupid, they have made some bad desicions, but they know how to keep people playing. Ive been here since launch+3 and despite a 2 week hiatus awhile back. Ill be playing hard for along time to come.

I've always felt a little uneasy about the moral implications of this game's tacit encouragement of drug use to get by. At least they've included a little downside to it (/puke). I just can't bring myself to use them. I guess I'm too much of a conformist... he he. Seems funny that offensive names aren't allowed, nudity ( i.e. lap dances)is not allowed, but snorting solvents is oakey-doakey.

Riskav, I'm a Bothan who can wear a composite suit minus the biceps, and I can do specials and heal myself just fine. Food(or spice) is all it takes. I use Breath of Heaven for times when I have to do a lot of specials and especially when wearing armor.

I have found that my best armor is my other profession: Comabt Medic. Yeah I still get beat on a lot but it's ok I can make it all better except the mind pool. Only armor I ever wore was mabori before I had pistols III then I kept it around for dangerous stuff till it was all killed by dieing due to mind dmg after the reduced mind attack patch.

i agree with Riskav

but i do use my helm and just clothes, if they use adv strafe wow it takes me down to like 200 mind, but i guess you should get a rock bettle if your still getting owned by NPC's till you get fanshot and all your doges ect

The type of armor you need always depends on your situation.

For PvP or fights against low HAM npcs, get your self some composite. The encumberance will be high, but since your fights will be short you can afford it (as long as you can get the thing on of course).

For most fights against creatures youare probably better off trying to find a high kinetic resist, low HAM ubese suit. This will allow you to take some big hits from the monsters while still being able to use your specials.

For extended PvE encounters, you can't afford the HAM cost of any armor. You will kill your self with your specials long before the thing you are fighting gets through it. This is the case that pistoleer is the worst at, and it will require outside help such as a pet tanking or maybe bleeding and running away. Basically anything that will allow ou to deal damage without taking any.

Finally, some people have mentioned waering only certian pieces of armor. This should work in most cases, but once you start fighting this that can deal a lot of dmage in one shot/blow, it will not. As if you wear an entire suit of armor except for the gloves, you could get hit in the hands once and you are out.

Summary: There is no one best armor, it will always depend on your situation.
