Thread: FEAR!!!!
Im in a group of 4 and theres this overt rifleman. I have a TEF on him so im thinking **edit** lets kill this guy, so i walk up to him then use panic shot. Hes delayed for 10 seconds so im thinking....w000t this **edit**er is going down. So the other 3 in the group start spamming shots and im thinking **edit** why is this guy still standing. So I look in the combat que and guess what we are missing everyshot. Then once the 10 sec is over he hits me for 900 with strafeshot and all 4 of us are dead. I checked the combat que after and i counted at least 30 misses in a row. I am a master pistoleer with dirty fighting 4. Heres a screenshot of my combat que after the fight:

So im thinking....wow these rifleman are **edit**ing awsome with their ranged defense, and then i come across the change notes on test center and notice this:

So now what i wanna know is....how the hell do we take out a rifleman. They shoot faster than us, they do more damage than us per shot, and we cant even hit them.
how is that a master rifleman can out fire 4 people with no trouble and only be hit 2 times from them. there needs to be a cap on defenses you can have. i am not one to cry nerf. but this was a complete joke.how is it a master pistoleer who is supposed to rarely ever miss if ever, supposed to take out a guy who is supposed to be slow and laying on the ground.
to make rifleman like the title suggests. put more prone/cover mods in and decrease the defenses.
we all know right now with adv strafe rifleman are the most elite fighting class there is when they hit once a sec. why should they be even more powerful unless he is up close to a bh he will take out a whole group of them like they are little bugs.
dont forget pistoleers have the title dead-eye in them.

Are you just a Pistoleer? or a BH/Pistoleer... us normal Pistoleers are the ones with the problems =) and from the sound of it you are a BH/Pistoleer combo... but I could be wrong... but most I ever hit for in pvp is like 400 or something... and I'm a master pistoleer and the now gimped Creature Handler.

But does that damage even matter if you miss everyshot? Im master pistoleer with smuggler and i cant even touch master rifleman. So i doubt your accuracy is better than mine.
Anyone think he might have defense mods from other professions? I am so tired of isolated incidents being blown out of proportion and the resultant call for nerfs. Did you even bother to /tell the guy asking what skills he had? I would think that Pistoleers would be more aware than most of the possiblity of someone wearing a certain title, and actually reaping the benefits of another profession- BH, Smuggler anyone? Maybe he had the defense mod trees from TKA and Fencer, on top of what he got from rifle. Please people, think before posting isolated instances like this calling for nerf.

So i guess the last thing about not being able to hit them might not pertain to a pure rifleman (if hes getting other defenses from other professions) but they do have pretty good ranged defenses on their own. Theother 2 still apply, they shoot faster than us(+90 speed mod) and they hit harder with their rifles (not to mentionap3). Now i know these issues will probably be resolved if they ever implement the speed caps, but up until then i wanna know what kinda strategy do we use to fight a master rifleman?
did you look at the link. did you not notice 4 people were shooting at 1 guy. a master pistoleer and another master rifleman with 2 others had trouble even doing any damage or hits to this guy. stop arguing bout it and saying how easy they are. they arent and we all know it. rifleman are not in anyways gimped at the moment. with the kind of power they have.
also this guy was not on the ground he was up and running around while we were all standing, kneeling, prone.
really only 400 in PvP? back in the day when i was JUST a pistoleer 0032 i could 2 hit people in PvP. if they challenge me i would just /pistolMeleeDefense1 then /stoppingShot. the stopping would do 1000+ damage.

And yes, I think it quite likely that the rifleman has stacking modifiers from another class. BUT that is yet another reason why modifiers from different classes shouldn't stack. The developers have shown time and time and time again that their attempts to balance professions often completely fail to consider the fact that stacking bonuses from multiple classes can result in some crazy abilities.
Re: the posts above about pistol versus rifle damage. It has been shown many times before that a master rifleman has a much, much higher damage potential than a pistol wielding person. The only way to get any parity is if the pistoleer has a crazy uber krayt fwg5, and even then, the fwg5 has no armor piercing. And to top it, their uber damage dealing special is an area attack. It's just sick how much damage a master rifleman can do. In the past, at least pistoleers could say that they have more defensive abilities but this is quickly become less and less true.
Re: our defensive modifiers, dodge is turning out to be a rather big disappointment for me. I dueled a fencer not too long ago (note, not a master fencer) where I agreed to stay in melee range. After four duels, I dodged ZERO times and melee defense barely made a difference. On the otherhand, I missed him quite a lot.
Is there a compelling reason for me to stay a master pistoleer? DEFINITELY NO.
i don't think so. we are capped the same way you are so at master with our base attack max 1 shot a sec.
at less then master you control the game entirely...
my brother is a 1232 pistoleer and I am a 3233 rifleman and he outshoots me 2 to 1 and with base attacks he does approx the same damage per shot i do (minus the ap bonus i get)
if you ran into a master rifleman that can outspam you he was either a) exploiting or b) you are not a master pistoleer
as for max damage the guy was probably using a pre-nerf t-21 (our new ones really suck) and if he was avoiding incoming fire like all get out... it is maybe the new super template floating around the rifleman board... rifleman+tka+fencer = insane mods for avoiding dying + it gives the rifleman something to do if he gets into close combat! (where we usually die in under a sec)
don't try to tell me you all don't use stacking mods... pistoleer bountyhunter (which does more mind damage in a given time then even master riflemen (which is supposed to be our strength)) pistoleer smuggler...
try pistoleer fencer+tka and see what you get.
so don't call for nerfs - call for fixs on your body shot 3 and other specials!
The only thing I have found to take out a Master riflist is a rocket to the side....
I am a master pistoleer with Commando and dirty fighting. I fought a Master Riflist/master TKA, 6 times...
I got him once... He was using only the T21. That rifle arced through my 80% comp like it was paper mache...and he had me down so fast I thought it was one move until I checked the combat channel. I was using a krayt G5 1.0 73-401 [with pu 516]. I could not do anything to this guy.
I tried twice with a rocket... the first missing... on the 6th fight I finally got him. To no avail, with TKA he used FOW , got up and stomped me.
He was a good joe and we were pulling tests.... so I refrained from the Flamethrower.... My pistol was useless.
