according to the letter from Garry Gattis on front of SWG page. He lays out their current plans for the next several publishes, and the only prof. he mentions is SquadLeader in publish 10. I, along with many others, would like to know when all this prof. revamp balance stuff gets done.
My objective opinion is that most likely the developers realised early 2003 that this MMORPG had some serious issues. But Sony pushed it out of Alpha into Beta anyways hoping most of the major issues would be resolved by retail release and any bugs still present will be a minor inconvienience.
Retail came in June 2003. Through the summer of 2003 as more people mastered individual professions and explored every nook and crany of this virtual world, one constant remained the same. The gamewas bugged to hell. From Core systems to minor subprograms. Once the novelty of the game started to wear thin, more people began noting bugs. Not 'opinions' mind you. Bugs. The same bugs they encountered since release and new ones after major patches. The same bugs that everyone were encountering. The same bugs that respected correspondents have submitted since Beta. The developers have been playing catch-up ever since.
With the looming propect of new MMORPGs being released in 2004. Highly anticipated MMORPGs. (as SWG was at one time) The DEV team came to an understanding that their philosophy of "players will add their own content" was more of a crutch for a game in desperate need of it.
Descision time. Either add more things ingame for people to do or fix the current and everpresent bugs that plague the player community.Their choice? Lets try to do both at the same time. But the SE needed to be up and flying before these other MMORPGs were released. Their choice? Split the DEV team in two. They are puuting all their chips into the SE. Hoping that will keep people from leaving. Instead of fixing SWG.
The combination of them trying to do too much at once and cutting the team (working on SWG)in half has resulted in many a jaded player.
I used to be addicted to this game. I was a powergamer at one time. I considered it my hobby. I will always be a Star Wars fan. ButI am no longer an SWG fan.
Thanks Sony.
