Thread: Pistoleer + BH vs. Rifle + BH?

Yeah so I'm a disgruntled DE and I just started dropping DE and Artisan in exchange forthe BH prequisite professions. Here's the situation:

I want to master an elite combat (either rifle or pistol) and then supplement it with the matching branch (to IV)of the BH profession. Atm, I have pistol techs 1 and I'm 3-4-2-4 marksman and I wanted to essentially know whether it would be smarter for me to go with mastering pistoleer or rifleman. I enjoy the range mods, specialsanddamage type of the DX2 acidpistolbut it is only light armor piercing.

At the same time, during my travels up the rifles branch it was almost love at first use with me and the laser rifle. Hitting lairs for 1500+ damage almost made me cry, which I expect is due to both the 400+ max damage as well as the medium armor piercing abilities of the weapon. Downside of course is that the range mods are such that it's really ineffective at medium to close range and also the Mind pool costs on at least the laser rifle are much larger than the Action cost of the DX2 pistol. So, any opinions here would be appreciated

So, Master Gunfighter + BH Pistol IV or Master Rifleman + BH Rifle IV?

what does the lightning cannon qualify as? HW?

Assuming that this is true, my first question regarding pistols (and the main question since this is the pistoleer section) still stands. If someone could reply I'd appreciate it.

Bingo....there's no BH rifle tree...maybe you were thinking about carbines? Unless you actually want to do BH missions (or even if you do), you're probably better off just doing Rifleman. I'd bet dollars to donuts that, even after the last patch, a Master Rifleman could eat a BH/Carbineer or BH/Pistoleer for lunch, any day of the week. You'll also save yourself plenty of skill points.

If you don't want to be a BH (ie. to do BH missions), your best bet might be something like Master Doctor/Master Rifleman, or some combination of Rifle with Melee.

If you do want to do BH, then just get 4000 BH for investigation, and master rifleman, or 3000 BH (can still get Jedi missions), master rifleman, and novice medic.

Well the idea was that I could get 3 things out of the pistol + BH plan:

  1. The BH pistol, which I assumed (bad idea) was better than the DX2 because, I mean c'mon, it's a Bounty Hunter weapon

  2. Obtaining the Ranged damage mitigations (1,2,3)available to master gunfighters would be extremely valuable.

  3. Stacking both the master gunfighter's and the BH Pistol 1-4's attack and accuracy mods would be a solid foundation for whooping serious *selfedit* all over the place.

So, while BH missions would be nice to be able to do(and are not possible due to the skillpoint defecit caused by mastering an elite combat AND having a whole branch of BH) they certainly are not going to be an issue. The main concern is whether the stacking of the skillmods and the overall combat ability of such a character would be significant enough to warrant the effort and the skillpoints being tied up.

Hey now was that at me. Yeah i don't really wanna talk about rifle anymore for the attention it has been getting. But if you really wanna get bh then get it but honestly its probably not wortht he sp, no defenses, extra speed you could just as easily get through attachments, and accuracy thats not as big of a deal either. In PvP its always best to pick up one melee master and one ranged master, that way you get mitigation 3 in both catagories and can have both types of attacks to use on people who have weaknesses such as bh. If you encounter a BH just melee them.

A wise analysis, Jp. I also thought that might be a worthy goal. Thankfully I hope to focus enough on the specialty of pistol (and get as many bonuses as I can, including attachments and the BH skills) so that I can overpower a melee character before they can reach me, or barring that my armor is going to be focusing on protecting against kinetic primarily and energy 2ndarily. So hopefully my opponents won't come at me with a stungun lol. Thank you for your input.

yeah i know what your saying, but the speed cap is 100 so you can have 74 from pistol and 100 in attachemnts, the accuracy is the only thing that will help.

all of this advice is a moot point if ur planning pvp...while in the right hands an MBH is good.....true combat temps. will always be better. our lack of defenses doom us, and the resistance versus kd/dizzy hurts us most.....we own in PVE though...very useful vs NPCs like nyms/blood razors...but then again....even a buffed nov. marksman can own pve......god.....MBH does suck....*cry*

we will have our day in the sun though...oh yes.....it will come

Well this is what my friend is and he loves it for PvP he is a

Master Marksmen

Master Scout

Master Pistoleer

BH 0/0/4/0

Rifleman 1/0/0/0

This is great for both PvP and PvE. Youa sk why the rifleman 1 in sniping. This is why in PvP he starts off with a t21 using mindshot2 this sticks a bleed on their mind pool for about 300 points a tick or so. Then he does torso shot 9people still freak out when they ge a fire dot don't know why) then spams eyeshot.

In my opinon you don't need anymedic skills at all. I don't know anyone who doesn't hunt or do PvP without buffs and with buffs you really don't need any medic skills.
