Hi All ... Your views and comments on the following would be GREATLY appreciated ... for unless you have anything encouraging to tell me, i think i will be putting a very swift end to my career as a Pistoleer !

I did an experiment recently, doing the same destroy mission (quenkers on Dantooine) with two different characters:

First of all with my TK Novice (1121 and no armour) ... he had absolutely no trouble, and finished the lair in about 4 minutes.

Secondly with my Novice Pistoleer (1131, armed with a sliced Republic Blaster and power-up, and wearing full Ubese armour with 70% Kinetic resist) ... it took him13 minutes just to get halfway though the mission and i had to use almost my entire reserve of Stims to stay alive. I then, of course, ran out of Mind and was slain.

I am absolutely disgusted by this huge difference between professions. Is there ANY POINT WHATSOEVER in remaining a Pistoleer?

Thank you ...

TKAs = Melee gods (well, probably an over exaggeration, but just go with it for now )

Pistoleer = broken to hell and back

Read the sticky posts, we're a crippled profession. We're all hoping that we'll be fixed and worthwhile as promised by the Devs with the combat balance. Only time will tell.

Hehe, I could have told you that lol. When I was at 0/0/4/0 in Teras Kasi, I could solo almost any mission easy (with buffs & armor) except maybe Enraged Rancors (1 maybe, 2 is reallypushing it). Pistoleer at 0/0/4/0, I was slow, inaccurate, weak and last but not least had the best specials the profession had to offer in ONE tree but still felt like a Novice.

To be fair your comparing what is quite possibly the best mele profession and one of thebest working professions overall in the gameto Pistoleer whichhas been Nerfed to high heaven.Try to keep in mind Pistoleer at Master is a world of a difference (still falls short of what we should be), where as Teras Kasi at Master you probably dont notice as much because you were kicking ass the whole time.

All I can say we can only get better when the fixes start coming........It can't possibly get any worse (of course if they dont fix that doge animation I'm going to blow a gasket).

All melee professions are really overpowered in PvE anyway ...

Well, I only grind while buffed and with plenty of food/drinks for mind, so I've never been incapped when doing quenkers, but I can say that you should have gotten box 4 in the 3rd tree:FanShot. Forego the 1st and 2nd trees until you get that special. You will increase your damage tremendously with it.

I can take a Savage Quenker lair down in about 2-3 minutes at most. What you do is stand a good distance away from the lair, spam fanshot, making sure the critters end up directly in your line of fire to the lair. Most will be damaged a good bit by the time your lair is dead. So much so, that it just takes some clean-up work to polish off those that didn't die while taking down the lair.

With a friend, we can solo the lair in about 30 seconds - if that - using Fanshot. I spam the lair and hit anything that's trying to heal it. He spams the targets aggroing me.

Pistoleers are less powerful, and worse in defence, than TKA's, but we already have heard this, however something is wrong if your getting beaten that badly and if you want to get pistol XP then look below.

Some advice...

First your using the wrong gun... for quenkers you want a DX2, their resists to acid are lower than their resists to energy, this makes a noticable difference.

Use Health Shot 2, it targets the one pool and does more damage than anything else you have.

Get buffed, even weak buffs (1k) are enough for this work, your already wearing armour i see.

Forget Quenkers, do savage quenkers 6.8-6.9k credits a mission.

For maximum XP group a pet or droid an leave it at the outpost.

You get 3.7-3.9 xp a kill (depends on how often they bleed) plus about 4k for the lair, 6 per lair

If you assume one baby per lair on average your getting 45k XP per pair of missions, thats an easy 180k xp per hour.

I know this isn't as good as TKA, but it does the trick for me

I used Savage Quenkers to master pistoleer myself. Here are a few pointers:

* Don't use the Republic Blaster. It's horrid at close range, and it's inherently slow. Use a DX2 or FWG5.
* Get Pistol Techniques ASAP. Fan Shot is your bread and butter in PvE. You'll see a drastic increase in the ease of missions after obtaining this special.
* I never used buffs, but I did make extensive use of muon gold. And you're in luck, because unfortunately, the market price of muon has gone way down since the chef revamp. Vasarian Brandy is also a good choice. Keeping the mind high will allow you to use stims as often as needed without too much fuss.

I'm working TKA now, and you're right. It is a lot easier. But if you follow those tips, I think you'll find that pistoleer is not so hard to level up as it seems to be for you now. Good luck.

im sorry, i know pistoleer is broken, i have been one since the begining on my alt, valaraukar, and yea it might be broken and needs fixing but theres somthing to be said for not fighting the same way you would with diffrent weapons.

Now im not saying you didnt go prone, get a few hits before one att you, or maybe you even did the old fishing trick and lure them away one at a time, but these proff are completely diffrent.

One is MADE to be a tank and take some dmg and give it too

The other is made for RANGED combat, and yeah they may run up on you but thats the point of accuracy while moving.

I am both TKM and master pistoleer, and both are VERY fromidable combat proff, you just need to know what works for both.

I have NEVER died from some quenkers, so we obviously are doing somthing diffrent.

Also pay attention to what dmg type works best and has the best ranged mods, if you know how to do it all right then quenker missions should help you master pistoleer in a few days, i feel they are the best for leveing up, at least in my veiw. Good luck bro,. hope you dont quit pistoleer, just think about the geo pistol, that is a pistoleers best friend in pvp

90% of the people that play this game are complete asses when they play cause they know if they acted the same way in RL they would be promptly beaten up and have their shoes stolen.

Well first off, when you have lvl 2 in power techniques you get an increase to both speed and damage. With pistoleer you need to have pistol marksmanship and pistol stances to be both accurate and fast with the pistol. And your pistoleer character only had lvl 1 on both of these trees. Another problem you will have when using a Rep. Blaster on Quenkers is they have a resist to energy damage. If you picked up a DX-2 pistol and spammed healthshot 2 on them, you would take them down alot faster because they have NO resist to acid damage. I have no probs what so ever with my character on bria who is a Master Smuggler Pistoleer 0434 and TKA 2011, on taking out quenker lairs. Just devote more skill points to the Pistol Marksmanship and Pistol Stances tree to hit more often alot faster and you should be fine.
