Thread: No XP for health shots?

I read in another topic (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=3234) that if you hit a creature with only health shots and let it bleed to death, you'll get no XP. I've seen some strange things happen with XP and this seems to explain them. Here's what I've seen:

1. Soloing. I attack a MOB that is BAF. I health shot1 the first MOB followed by a warning shot that sends him away. While I'm finishing off his buddy, the first guy bleeds to death, but I get no XP for it.

2. I'm hunting with a buddy. I'm pistol spec, he's expert pistol. I open up with health shot, then we both start plugging away with body shot. When the MOB get's closeI warning shot it away then switch back to the body shot. When it's over, my friend get's ~400XP while I get a mere 150XP.

Has anybody else had similar experiences or know anything more about this? I suppose I could be off my rocker.

Actually I'm thinking healthshot isn't what is making you lose experience, warning shot is. When you bleed a target with healthshot normally it keeps you in the target's hate list. Warning shot however drives the creature away from you and sometimes they don't come back to attack you (possibly the hate list is cleared). I know for a fact that you still get xp for a kill if all you do is bleed the target...warning shot may be a different story...or possibly the combination of the two is what is causing the loss of xp.

Now I'm assuming the creatures you were killing in your previous example was from a lair. Did you destroy the creatures' lair prior to attacking them with healthshot and warning shot? If that is the case then what most likely occured is that the creature that you had bleeding and then frightened off with warning shot didn't die, instead it could be possible that it despawned instead. You must keep the target in attack mode after killing its lair otherwise it despawns after a few minutes.

Bleed damage doesn't "Count" - it doesn't allocate to anything. So you have to be careful to hit the mob with something, anything, else to make sure you get exp.

However, this can also be to your benefit because it means that if you use your high pistol skills to apply some nice bleeds and get in just a single shot from a rifle or carbine, 100% of the mob's experience will go to rifle or carbine (if you have a need for such exp). The favorite trick here (I haven't done this, so I might have the details wrong!) is to use grenades (?) because they give combat experience. So if you use ONLY bleeds and a grenade, instead of getting, say, 1500 pistol exp and 150 combat experience, you get 1500 combat exp. I don't think it's actually worth the effort though since you need tons and tons of pistol exp anyway, so the 10 to 1 ratio doesn't matter.

Simple experiment use healthshot on a creature, then feign death. When creature stops bleeding stand up and bleed it again then feign death again. When the creature finally dies from bleeding death you will get full xp for the kill.

Similar situation I used to use when Jax hunting was bleed every jax you see and keep them bleeding till they die. When they die you will receive full experience for each and every kill. I liked destroying the lair while waiting for the jaxes to bleed to death. If I destroyed the lair I could continue killing the jaxes unless they stopped bleeding. Once they stopped bleeding I would have to make them bleed again before they despawned.

In short yes you do get xp for bleeding creatures with healthshot.

The exp hit is coming from warning shot not health shot....warning shot does "damage" but since that damage is designed to scare the critter away, you get no exp for the damage it does.

And yes, you get fully exp from healthshot in whatever weapon you use against the creature.

Actually yeti ya bring up an interesting point. I may have to test that to be certain however. The bleed damage you inflict may not count towards the xp you get within a group fighting the same target.

Bleed shots do not lessen exp, unless the creature runs out of range and bleeds to death. Then you get no exp. I'm positive.

Bleeds don't count for exp, period. But if you bleed a mob and never shoot it again and it dies, you get full exp. You're getting exp because the bleed shot has an initial dmg that DOES count.

ok i health shot2 a creature, then i spam body shot 2. but be4 the creature dies, i get incapped. then the creature walks away and bleeds to death, i get no xp at all. this can be really annoying when you just took down a creature that gives 3000xp. no when i die, and then it bleeds to death, i can see not getting any xp for that, but when ur only incapped, i think you should still get the xp.

i've had this happen too often and can't stand it. i've killed the creature so why shouldn't i get exp for it? in fact, maybe i should get more since the bleeding i inflicted cause it to die while i was lying on my back incapacitated

you have to be within 64 meters of a creature that dies to get XP.. sucks when they can hit you from 80 meters away (will npcs anyways)
