Thread: Filling your Niche

This is my discussion/idea-generating thread on balance.

I just want to throw some ideas around about whats currently wrong with combat classes (not that this post will have any effect on the rebalance.)

The only way that the combat classes can be balanced is by picking a niche for each class.

for example)
-Carbines already do a good job at status changing they just have funky ham costs. -Rifles hit mind, they should be very slow. but hit very hard. and get great bonuses from being prone but be awful while standing and only decent while crouched. And -pistoleers should have the highest DPS. They hit health which is healable. They should hit it quickly and softly.
-Bounty Hunter needs a complete revamp they should not be able to outgun a master pistoleer or carbineer, but they should be kinda tricky. Think about it...the coolest thing about Boba Fett...now it was part of his armor, but the Jet pack, the zip line (that he wrapped luke up with) give them cool little gadgets that can be used in battle. (I'm out of ideas on this)
-Commando-real life commandos aside these guys should be able to take out their big guns and hit hard, but not often. I always like to think of the commando as whipping out his rocket launcher to blow away like a fourth the Rancor's HAM then as the rancor comes closer he has to switch to his secondary profession because he has a ten second delay between shots. Now maybe this is over the top but you get the idea

Anyways so open discussion: Do you think these professions need to all have niches or should it just be a "DPS War?" What do you think the niches for each profession should be? What sort of gadgets should BHs get? What about Melee Classes? (I dont have much experience in those so I didnt touch them please feel free to add any) Or any other things you feel are relevant to the discussion.

I agree that Pistoleers need to be the fastest Range Weapon wielders. Damage should also be in line with the other range professions, provided that you are in your ideal range.

Rifles need to be the most damaging Range Weapon Wielders, but also the most inaccurate. Riflemen should also suffer a heavy accuracy penalty if running / moving. The way things are now, I can get in a Riflemans face and he can run away and still manage to inflict enough damage to kill me.

Carbineers should be mostlyleft the same, and I think that the devsshould look to carbineers as the balancing point for Pistoleers and Riflemen.

/meditate

Bria- Master Medic / Master Brawler / TKM ~(Hero of Tatooine)~

Scylla- Carbineer / TK ~(Hero of Tatooine)~

Tempest- Master Doctor / TKM

DPS is going to be king and remain king unless we they implement some seriously kickass status effects like

decreasing enemy movement speed (crippling shot, anyone?)

decreasing enemy attack speed (disarming shot, anyone?)

etc.

because when it comes to "Debilitate the enemy" or "Kill the enemy", killing tends to bode best. If it were up to me, here is how they would be balanced.

Profession Pool SpeedDamage AOE Attacks Status Attacks

Rifleman/Pikeman Mind Low High None None

Carbineer/Swords. ActionMedium Medium Many Many

Pistoleer/ Fencer Health High Low Few Few

You'll noticeI switched swordsman and pikeman.I think pikemen should be "jousters" more than "sweepers". Spears and halberds were always designed to "poke the enemy to death"...Why not now? Not to mention lances were used to attack the head in medieval times.
