Thread: Don't overlook the 'lower-end' pistols

I was searching for some pistol schematics to make use of my limited krayt tissue with last week.
Today I finally settled on a pair of DL44's and a DH17. Why?
I had only 3 krayt tissues, so I couldn't get a geo or DX2 made.
I'm a master Smuggler and the DL44 is just a must for style.
I had both a scout and a DH17 in my inventory, and the DH17 was faster, cheaper in HAM, and had better damage (both sliced, obviously the DH17 had a great slice).

Coincidentally, the slices and the krayted weapons turned out to be so-so, but that's really beside the point.

What I learned from investigating all the types of pistols is this: There's an urge to use the 'best' pistol you're certified for, and crafters tend to follow the market pretty solidly; but it might not be the 'best' in all cases.
Looking at the oft-scorned DH17, and the infrequently used DL44 I found that with good slices, they are every bit as good as a scout blaster, and probably cheaper to come by. The SR Combat pistol piqued my interest, but I couldn't find enough of them to experiment with slicing them out to see what I liked.

Contact a Weaponsmith, try to get them to make you a lower-schematic gun with the high-end, or high-quality resources. I suspect (but haven't logged my WS on in weeks) that the other guns, like the DL44 and DH17 will be less restricted in terms of allowable materials, and that you can get some really nice stats out of them. Slice them out, see if you agree.

I'm big on the less common guns. SR combat pistols and Striker pistols are my personal favorites.
Most people want the best pistol for their money if they are going to spend the kind of money it takes for krayt tissues.

I'll admit up front that I'm only 0/0/3/1 in Pistoleer and am looking forward to the much praised fanshot and master, but for now I have to chime in on the lower end pistols.

The DH17 is my hands down favorite, though most say the Scout is theirs. At my stage in the game, speed is more important than damage and my DH17 with a speed of 1.1 pumps out rollshot or kipupshot (currently my best moves) at close to the speed cap - making it my highest DPS weapon. I have /examine keymapped in, so I can change to my Republic Blaster, FWG5, or DX2 with another key stroke (everything is keymapped!) if the situation warrants AP or a specific damage type. But my default sidearm is my superfast DH17!

I also carry a DL44 for style purposes! They need to improve that one (I think they should switch the roles ofthe DL44 and the Republic Blaster, personally - I hate the looks of that thing!).

Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the Striker? What is vulnerable to kinetic but not energy?
