Thread: The DE-10 and this week's question: Where we stand now

As I've stated, I passed on the mess with the barrels. A quick synopsis:

  • There are no stats listed on them.

  • It is possible that the stats are invisible, but they could simply not be there.

  • There are white, yellow, and possibly green-named barrels dropping.

I also asked about reimbursement or replacement for bugged barrels/pistols, but that is dependent on how this whole thing shakes out. I'm not terribly optimisic, but I'll do my best.

THE UPDATE: I just heard back from Thunderheart. He says he isn't sure what's going on with them either, but he passed it along to the team.

This week's Question:

Thunderheart is squeezed for time with the whole "E3-and-then-Fan-Fest" business going on, so he wants to do 19 quick, fun questions. He doesn't want to be rushed answering our "real" questions. I know it's a disappointment to wait even longer, but not half as disappointing as getting 19 lousy answers.I'll likely spit out a couple of them for him, and I'll be reviewing this thread for more suggestions.

here's the most fun question i can think of...

Pistoleers have recieved many new weapons, more than any other combat profession. We've garnered some resentment among other professions for this. Is this an intended design decision, as one of our perks?

You could always ask why it takes two pistol whips to kill a baby when in real life, it only takes one?

Or the old standby, whose idea was it to chop the DXR-6 in half and make that the DX-2?

There are two kinds of people in this world: those with loaded guns, and those who dig.

um, why is does he feel he'll be rushed into answering them? Everyone damn answer is wait for the combat revamp.

Hmmm well I stated before in a post, this whole waiting on 19 answers because of E3 now Fan Fest, is crap. They knew about both of those events before announcing the 19 answers. He is still on the on the clock for these events, write it up while travelling, and post it later from the hotel. Geez.

Anyway, I thought we had our question all ready to go. Kind of late at this point, especially if he was going to be answering this week.

1. How about something along the lines of asking how we will fit into the combat rolls? For example, will we be heavy on damage but light on defences and light on state attacks. Will we be heavy on defences but light on damage, medium state effects? Things like that.

It seems that the melee prof got this layed out a bit better then the ranged did.The TK is averaged out between defences and damage. The fencer is high defences. The Swordsman is good damage, and medium defence, and the polearm is high damage, lower defences. The ranged combat prof need similar methods. If you look in marksman, it lays it out for us. The pistol line says "Short Range" Carbines says "medium range" and rifles says "long range". Are they planning on actually using that "template" so to speak? And no lame answers about wait for the CB. This can be a pretty simple easily asnwered question, unless they are soooo far behind on working on the CB. If they have been working on it, and it's going to go in on publish 10, or maybe 11(I forget) then it should be pretty far along in coding etc to answer that kind of question.

2. How about this for an option of a question? Are they planning on keeping the current HAM pool specializing with the ranged combat professions? For example pistoleer is health, rifleman is mind and carbineer is action. Will they keep it specialized per profession still but maybe swapping them around, or will they be getting away from that all together?

3. How will our dual wield work? Will it be that we have to have specially crafted blasters that are for dual wielding? Or will we just be able to equip any two blasters out of our inventory? Also, what kind of penalties are they looking at doing for dual wielding?

4. For our specials and the CB, are they planning on working on existing specials, and making them work as intended? Or are they going to be replacing some of them, and redoing parts of the profession based on the Pistoleers "Combat Roll"?

We still have our serious question for when TH asks for it. He pulled all the goofy/trivial questions today, so no need to suggest any more.

I don't like it either, but it's the way things are.

Last minute change, he had us give him the real questions after all.

yes - cha-CHING!

Something i've noticed about the devs...maybe its just me. They often THREATEN to nerf or disappoint (e.g. Crafting Revamp and Fanshot changes), then at the last moment do what they were supposed to do (oftentimes keep the status quo)...

Whether or not its on purpose, its a nice tactic to keep the masses in check.

This is my last post before Fan Fest. Things have been a bit hectic. Fortunately I worked a small shift at the officetoday, during which I took full advantage of the internet connection.

I gave TH the question we had prepared, and he didn't want to answer it this week. He wanted to do real questions, but not really complicated ones. I guess that means we askeda damn good queston! I had to come up with an easierone on the fly, because we didn't have time to discuss it in a committee. I actually came up with a few that he could pick from, based on a lot of our chief concerns. It wasn't my first pick (Imade mypreference clear), but this is the one he chose to use:

Pistoleer is a profession facing some pretty challenging problems. We've been told that the Combat Balance aims to fix a lot of these problems. Can we look forward to sweeping changes (revamped specials, added functionality, speed, significant number tweaking, etc), or primarily only basic bug fixes?

Basically, I wanted to feel out what the developers were thinking about us. Do they see us as badly as we do? Are they hearing our pleas? Is this CB really going to be up to the hype, as far as Pistoleers are concerned? Are we on any sort of priority? These are fears that have been expressed here with increasing frequency recently. Iincluded this question to get to the bottom of it, one way or the other.
