Thread: The one thing I truly enjoy about PvP as a gunfighter

No one is ever 100% sure what you're capable of.

I was healing up in a cantina last night before heading off to spend my 900K of recently aquired pistol xp. A random swordsman (battlemaster), clad in composite and wielding a power hammer, asks me if I want to go for a friendly duel. I'm standing around in my normal clothes, holding a sonic blaster. We're both unbuffed.

I say sure, and of course he moves within 5m of before offering the duel. Now, I've was a swordsman for a long time, I know what they're capable of on their own (I figured if he was a melee stacker there was nothing I could do). I know swordsman have crap for posture changes, and little in the way of state defenses. I figure if I live through the first /2handheadhit3 I'll come out on top (again, assuming he's not stacking).

I accept the duel, he gets the first hit in, but it's all over for him after that. Pistol whipped, intimidated, and hit with all the eyeshot spam I could muster.

I'm not saying I'm some uber PvP'er now, as it was really a noob duel (I doubt he was a master, and I was 0/0/4/2 pistoleer / 0/0/4/0 BH at the time). It was just amusing to surprise him. He probably didn't expect to get knocked down in melee range or hit with intimidate, and I know he didn't expect to have his mind attacked.

I'm sure the hardcore PvP crowd will be ready for anything a gunfighter can dish out, but the rest of the population that I've come across seems to have a hard time wrapping their minds around all of the different styles we can take.

I'm a speed capped Master rifleman. I dueled a Fencer. Owned him. Dueled a BH. Owned him. Dueled a Fencer through a buff and composite. Owned his Health bar. Dueled a Pistoleer with BH Pistols and a Geo? Had my ass handed to me faster than I could blink.

Recently, I did a search for a Master Pistoleer so I could get trained in Pistol Tech 3. Really cool guy. He taught me and afterward, he offered to teach me the skills i could level in for BH and Smuggler. I quickly realized he had finished the same template I was working on (Master Pistoleer/ Rogue/ Desperado). He challenged me to a duel and I accepted, just to see what I'd be able to do in the near future in PvP. Let's just say it was quick....

Of course, he was using a geo blaster...which i also had in my inventory and didn't think to equip...not that it would've mattered. i didn't even get a shot off. But yes, if you fight a pistoleer, be prepared to get beat...you never know what tricks they have in store for you. I love this profession.

I was the pistoleer that owned Night :-P What happened to him was exactly what everyone is saying..he really didn't know what to expect, since pistoleer is a relatively rare pvp profession. I just targeted him, hit /follow, and spammed eyeshot with my geo. Works like a charm against all riflemen, if you can get close and /follow them they go down. Good duel Night, you'll know what to do next time we fight

It's great to see that pistoleers are getting better at tactics and figuring out certain ways to win.

The unfortunate thing about this is that everyone who posted here posted about BH pistols line, not pure pistoleer specials. BH Pistols does not equal pistoleer, unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's still with pistols and the master pistoleer augments BH pistols almost as much as BH pistols augments master pistoleer, but it'd be nice to be able to be viable as a profession without having to take Rogue or Desperado.

Then again, there aren't many professions out there that are great by themselves, hence the new combat balance (if it ever happens)

Iwas careful tosay gunfighter, not pistolleer

I've played just about every combat profession there is, and the only one that really stands on its own in PvP is rifleman. Carbineers are screwed without bounty carbines, pure bounty hunters have no defense, melees without stacked defense are hittable, and each has their tradeoffs, and so on and so forth.

I thinkgunfighter are lucky to haveso many choices. Each pistol line really brings in a different element, and for that I'm thankful - we could have ended up with multiple redundant lines and redundant specials across all three professions. I know pure pistoleers seea lack of special attacks, but honestly as a swordsman I only ever used three of my specials, same with rifleman.

I too have played just about all of the combat professions and I currently use a mixture of rifles and pistols, I too have to say that as a rifleman there are only four specials: strafe2, headshot3 and concealedshot and my personal favourite, snipershot, I love delivering deathblows from 60m. All melee are (weapon)hit3, (pool)hit3 and a kd if they have it. It is rare to encounter a melee player who uses his full arsenal and no marksman uses everything because the majority is redundant or simply not working.

I've played all the pistoleer offensive templates, and I have to say, although you have a nice diverse moves list, again you only seem to use a couple. Lastditch is all you need PvE vs one, fanshot vs many, eyeshot is all you use for PvP unless you like to throw in a cheeky lowblow or panicshot here and there. Bottom line, the devs need to deliver on their promise that the combat revamp will be making all weapons and all moves viable and useful to even masters of each combat profession or this "spam your best move" mentality will continue and PvP tactics will remain the weapon of the few.

Ah, Ittov, my favorite armorsmith (Awesome Ubese, I am on shadowfire too). Anyways, most melee fighters fall easily to the tactics of a pistoleer due to the fact that we have many useful specials (assuming you have BH pistols IV). Pistol MD 1 has always been my favorite, but if I am ever fighting a melee combatant, I generally go torso shot, health shot 2, stopping shot (if they aren't buffed).

That is so true, you *have* to think to even have a chance, most rifleman just have to remember where they put headhit3

Exactly, and since a good deal of Pistoleers are also Smugglers, it even makes it better because we get all of the dirty fighting techniques that really make it worthwhile...

Here, here! If you know how to use the moves you have, they'd better kill you in the first shot or they won't be killing you at all!

By the way, real good idea to set up a macro that tells you when moves like SuppressionShot and PMD1 can be used again on the same target. I don't remember what the /pause magic number is, but I send myself a /tell that says PMD1 is Ready! so I get that audio blip. Helps a lot, just remember if you've got lots of targets you can basically ignore it because if you target a new person the delay doesn't affect whether or not you can KD them.

But let's not be to vocal about it, we don't want people catching on to us.
