I'm in a dilemma. I am a Master Bounty Hunter with Pistoleer 4 0 0 4 but I like the damage output of my carbine over that of my pistols. (I'd say that my carbine does twice the damage of my pistol once specials are factored in.) I do however love using my pistols with eyeshot at the speed cap. Problem is pistol damage is just not that good.
I typically enter combat with my carbine armed so that I can lay a KD/dizzy (Bounty Hunter carbine specials), then switch to my pistol for a fire DoT (Torso shot). Due to the weapon switch delay, I usually stay with the pistol after that. I sure would like to stick with a single weapon and not have to worry about switching back and fourth from pistol to carbine.
I read on the Bounty Hunter forum a debate on which is better.... Master Bounty Hunter/Master Pistoleer or Master Bounty Hunter /Master Carbineer. I also don't know how important it is to master either. There might even be a combination of Master Bounty Hunter / some pistols + some carbines. It looks like it comes down to this.....Pistoleer has better defense than Carbineer, but Carbineer has higher damage output than Pistoleer especially when you factor in medium armor piercing of the laser carbine vs. light AP of all pistols (well...AP 0 on some).
So now you can see my dilemma. My question is with a carbine speed of +80 and accuracy of +120 (Bounty Hunter with no Carbineer) how much help would it be to add Carbineer stats.... either some or Master? Are there Carbineer specials that are better than the Bounty Hunter Carbine specials? At the same time I have pistol speed of +80 and accuracy of +120 before I add Pistoleer skills. Pistoleer adds to Bounty Hunter some melee defense, some state defense, a few specials that I don’t use, and the Geo pistol certification, which is great for PvP, but useless against Jedi. (Damage type makes no difference against armor less Jedi.) I’m speed capped with pistols even without Pistoleer skills.
I'm hoping there's some players out there with both Bounty Hunter /Carbineer and Bounty Hunter /Pistoleer experience that can help with this.
Thanks in advance.

I am a master Bounty hunter / Master Pistoleer. I also have 0/0/3/0 in the carbineer tree for the counter attack. Personally, I love it. I completely stayed away from PvP when I was just a MBH, but now that I have added pistols, I'm in it quite heavy. NPC marks are almost all vulnerable to stun, so the Geo is used a lot. As far as jedi, well.....eyeshot still works good, and it's nice to catch them on fire, but..........
The carbineer I just added to my template. I notice the counterattack is a little higher, but not as much as I hoped to be honest.
Hope this helps

Well if your going to do pistols then you should do 0-0-4-0 because it gives you defences, fan shot, and the ablilty to use the geo pistol. The tech line is the way to go. I would go with pistoleer 0-0-4-2 along with master pistoleerat the very least because that will give you 97 pistol speed which caps pistol speed and also you would have 125 pistol accuracy. You would also have 52 skill points left. This is if you want to do some pistoleer.. dodge is some thing up to you. Carbineer is nice but the ham costs are insane.

Well...I went for the dodge line in pistols first. My thoughts were that BH's have so little defense that with a high dodge, I can at least avoid a few attacks, which is nice. I have +80 dodge and I eat a +35 dodge food, which gets me up to +115 dodge. The speed line was easy to get because I already had enough combat xp to almost get threeof the boxes. So contrary to popular thought ...I went 4 0 0 4 in pistols for dodge/melee defense before I worked on the pistol grip tree.
The problem now is that I'm having second thoughts about pistols and I'm thinking of carbines....but I don't want to commit to carbines unless I have confidence that it's the right thing to do.
Thanks for the advice up to this point. If you have more toadd...feel free to donate it.

Well i beleive i know the answer to your problem samijx. I am a BH carbs 4 Master carbs and i find i dont even need pistol.....but if you want the pistol but also like carbineer why not have a template with Master Bounty Hunter, Master Carbs, and pistoleer 0-0-4-0. you might even be able to throw in the dodge tree in pistols or novice med.

BHs need some d-fence so I'd get master pistoleer or atleast some pistoleer for the d-fence

I like to keep novice medic cause I don't always run around buffed. I think I will likely try out master pistoleer since I'm over 1/2 way there....and if I find out that the damage output is just too hard to bear....I might then try carbines.......then again...I can try carbines now and see if I start to notice a difference.
This brings up a good point...as master BH what carbine tree ought I persue first?

i dont know what to suggest for carbine,
but if you wanna go pistol, id just drop MBH and keep pistol line. adding master pistoleer is sweetcause 1 tree adds dodge which is better than defense, 1 tree adds accuracy which you can never ever have too much of, 1 tree adds speed and you need to be capped, and 1 tree adds state defenses. and master box increases all of that. yes pistoleer specials suck but thats what bh 0040 is for.
damage may not be as high of a multiplier as carbine specials, but hitting only health or mind makes up for that imo. also the pistol version has better defense.
and finally, i am not too impressed with laser carb...even though its ap2 it has a really low min
just my 2 cents

About the laser carbine....
low min and high max which gives a decentaverage hit. Add in AP2 and it is a nice weapon. Not perfect...but nice.

Im going to second the notion of dropping MBH and going 3-0-4-0 Bounty Hunter, and Master Pistoleer. De-10s reek havok on Jedis, because of their high damage output. Also, you get the ability to get some smuggler.I recommend this because of 2 major reasons. First, LLC, the only place I've ever used it was in the DWB. Secondly, Carbineer has minimal defense, stacked along side Bounty Hunter especially. Its just alot more benefitial to you to get pistols. I mean, we do have the better titles! =)
