How the hell do you get an item sliced? Is it the same as the slicing ability the Smugglers have? I thought that was used to break into locked containers, terminals, etc...
Is this something an NPC can do for you or do you have to get a PC (if so what class?)?

Yes you need to find a smuggler to slice your weapon for you. Same skill as his slicing line. I heard that once a weapon has had a slice attempt on it, whether it succeeds or fails, it cannot be sliced again. What I didn't find out is if that only applies to the original Smuggler, or to any Smuggler.

Also if the slice fails, the weapon is not harmed in any way. The only drawback being that nobody can slice it again, I gather.

That's all I have heard so far.

A smuggler can use a FAN on it to guarantee the weapon is successfully sliced.

As a smuggler and pistoleer let me answer this one.

1. Yes you need to be a smuggler to slice Weapons, Terminals, locked Containers, and armour.

2. The FAN (Flow Analyzer) onlyworks 75-80% of the time. Its the Molecular clamp that works almost 100% of the time.

3. When a smuggler has failed to slice any weapon container or armour that item can never be sliced by any smuggler ever again.
