I'm a little confused.
I bought my pistol a few days ago on the bazaar for about 3k (Tyrenea, Corellia - Chilastra.)
A D-17 "Pistol" as it is classified. 60-94 damage and speed about 3.
It looks a lot like a carbine with the silver polished barrel and if I'm prone or kneeling it will shoot multiple times. It is also carried in two hands. I have been nailing creatures in upwards of 250-300 damage a shot (usually with minimum damage weapon upgrade.)
I have absolutely no carbine skill at all and I just recently hit Pistol Specialist.
This couldn't really be a carbine but labeled pistol can it?
How could I be doing that much damage otherwise?
Let me know what you think.

People can name things on the bazzar what ever they want. Make sure to examine them before buying.
And if you have novice marksman, you can use a carbine. Have you noticed your carbine XP increasing since using the weapon? How about pistol?

Have you been getting pistol or carbine experience with it? ![]()
It looks like a CDEF carbine from your description, but it could be a re-used graphic.
It could also be a re-named item that was crafted and mis-labeled.
Or it could be a bug.

No, there are both DH17 pistols and DH17 Carbines. I have both (from when I thought I was going to master the whole marksmen tree). The Pistol is nice, but like the carbine it's rather rough on your action when you special with it. For soloing, I use it since I can control the specials more, but in large groups that need tons of specials I still use my scout blaster for the lower HAM costs.

Here's an easy way to tell:
Try using bodyshot.
Does it work?
If yes, it's pistol, if no, then it's not.
