Do you think we should/would ever get a ap 2-3 pistol? something with high-medium dmg, slowslowslow speed and higher ap?

Somthing like those .44 Magnums that'll "Blow your head CLEAN off-punk"

It would be nice, but considering we've got a combat revamp coming eventually and everything could change I'm reserving judgement on its necessity. Personally, I'd prefer us to continue to be restricted to AP1 weapons but add in the ability to Dual Wield at master to help compensate for lackings in the AP department. Plus, it would be kind of neat to be able to fire two different damage types at once

I think the DE-10 should have been AP 2.

I would love to have the DE-10 as AP2, but I too am waiting for the Combat revamp. I want to see how the profession plays once:

1) All my specials work...or at least do SOMETHING useful
2) That HAM bar gets completely revamped
and
3) All my specials work...or at least do SOMETHING useful

I dont mind being kept at AP1 weapons as long has we have dual wield and a definite speed advantage. Right know we have neither.

/me waits patiently

Here's the thing, it is much more likely that an advanced weapon like blaster pistol is going to have much better armor piercing power than a sword or a hammer. Melee professions need some serious work, and in my opinion should be limited to no AP. Then go up the row in ranged professions giving Pistoleers AP1, Carbineers AP2 and Rifleman AP3. That would balance things sort of, but then adding the ability to use two pistols should match things up for us pistoleers.

Yes, in theory a pistol should be capable of higher armor piercing, equal to a carbine, but that then effectively weakens the carbineer profession, especially if we have the ability to use two pistols.

without a ap-2 weapon , pistoleers will always be crap at high end pve . atleast other professions who are limited to ap-1 weapons ( fencers or tka's ) can provide a usefull function to the group as tanks .

either give pistoleers ap-2 weapons or give them a pistol toughness mod ( similar to tka toughness except it would work against ranged attacks ) .

Wait to see what our CB balance doc brings - I suspect we won't really need an AP2 pistol if the speed equations are being changed and carbineers and rifleman will be slowing down. Melee profs will also find this too.

Pistol users will also not suffer the reduction in speed of movement which users of larger weapons will be getting.

In effect, we'll finally have a speed of fire and speed of maneuver edge against users of larger weapons,

Bear in mind it's also been stated that the way AP currently works will also be changed as part of the balance - the AP factor will ONLY come into play when fighting armoured opponents - you'll no longer get an AP bonus when hitting unarmoured opponents with AP weapons.

Now I'm aware that in real life there are pistols which would be classed as AP2 (in that they fire cut down rifle ammo) - but this is a game and game balance needs to be taken into account.I can't see the devs ever giving us an AP2 weapon for exactly that reason.

If there's anyhting we should be looking for, it's some mechanism to counter the melee classes who own us at the ranges we're supposed to be best at.
