In your post
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=61625

you mentioned a date of sept 6th for a release of documentation reguarding the CB changes..

as I can't remember when this thread was started (and don't see a date anywhere) .. did you mean that sept 6th was the date this content was going to be trickled out, or a week from now : sept 13 (if this was the case why did you mention the 6th?! )

anyways... very anxious to get my hands on these documents, as I'm sure a great many others are as well.
So anxious in fact, I made a bit of an ass of myself in another forum.. but that's besides the point

dates man.. I need dates! (and not the fruit!)

I intended to say a week from August 30th, so the ETA was yesterday (Sept 6th). Other correspondents, not wanting to get your hopes up, chose not to communicate this ETA. I'll never do that; I think it's condescending. You guys are mature enough that you understand delays are a way of life around here, and you aren't going to lose your minds over it. You just want to have some idea of when things are going to happen.

While I don't have a new ETA, I can tell you where we are in the process. Normally it goes like this:

  • Devs come up with a first draft and post it in a Correspondent forum.

  • Correspondents review and make suggestions for clarity and just all around better PR. (takes about 3-4 days)

  • Devs make adjustments and repost.

  • If needed, correspondents make more suggestions. (takes about 2 days)

  • Devs post the final draft publicly.

Where are we now? The first doc hasn't been opened up for correspondent review/proofreading yet, but I'm told it will be this week. Overall I would say we are looking at 1-2 weeks. I know that's a lotlonger than what we were told initially, but it doesn't look like it's been expedited as quickly as Thunderheart anticipated. I've been stomping my feet saying we should get you guys and your feedback involved as soon as possible.

good to know..

atleast we, the general paying public know we're not the only ones have smoke blown up our caboose.. heh

I'm new to this community, and it's really quite different (poorly so) than any other I've been a part of. Now, granted, perhaps it wasn't meant as a 'hard' deadline.. but the history I've read on this board is.. astounding. I am very surprised there is much of a customer base left to the game at all.

I've seen posts by people who say they've been here since the start say they're cancelling their accounts for the next 3 months or indefinately until the combat balance actually hits.. I've seen people who've been here since the beta say "omg this is the worst it's ever.. ever been" (in reguards to community outcry) and that "the fanbase is leaving" .. honestly, from reading the forums over the last month and 1/2 to two months (from beginning to end) it seems a lot of people are finally fed up, and are finally understanding that nothing will be accomplished in a timely manner (pistoleer specials for example, or bh droid problems, or xxxxx you name it.. heh) so long as the money boat still comes in on time for soe.

People like me however, are throwing a wrench into the gears, as a new player, I still find some aspects fun and it's still a 'new' game to me, I've yet to explore several of the planets in the galaxy etc.. I'm only doing my 2nd themepark (and playing it, not grinding it to get jedi).. there is still some fun content in the game for new players. having said that however, it's limited content (reaaaaaally repetetive missions, 'dungeon' areas that are all the same layout.. etc etc).

I really hope the devs are aware of the effect this is all having on their customers and clientelle.. The people NEED something to rejuvinate their interest in the game.. and they need that something soon. Even something so simple as this documentation being openned to the public eye (including during the revisions process) would be seen as a sign that this is not going to get pushed off for another 6-8 months. A sign that they know exactly how frustrated the community is becoming, and a sign of commitment to the fanbase, and not the almighty dollar.

I hope they can see and realize this.. and it's not just the viewpoint of a new player who has read a summary of the games online play and development of the last year, as recently as two weeks ago. I'm honestly not qualified to be as frustrated as I am, but I feel the pain of others who have paid hundreds of dollars in account fees over the last year. I know how frustrated I would be paying to play a Beta version of the game for the last year and 1/2 .. I'm already frustrated that I've chipped in 50 bucks (to buy and play for 2 months) and I'm playing a severely broken product. It's not right, and it's to such a degree that I don't think the devs are as intouch with the community as they should be.

What I'm seeing on the forums (and feeling myself) is about 1 step away from getting the torches and pitchforks out.. time to storm the castle.

Thanks for the info Randonb and i sincerely appreciate your honesty and forthcomming with dates when other correspondents will not.

I guess my follow up question is simple then. Based on what you have written above 1-2 weeks to get a document generated how long would you estimate for implementation of the then agreed upon document. I'm ready to dump pistoleer and BH for a much more effective melee class but you and Tanks seem very optimistic regarding the changes so I don't want to regret surrendering my skills.

Do you have any advice for existing Pistoleers and or Bounty Hunters?

I should clarify that the correspondents have been reviewing the docs, but not in the official "review for the public" thread, which isn't up yet.. Understand we have a Correspondent Development and a Correspondent Discussion forum. The threads are currently in Correspondent Development, and TH was planning on posting copies in Correspondent Discussion for review/polishing. That should happen today.

As for whether you should hang onto Pistoleer, that decision is ultimately yours, but I don't think it would kill you to hang on until you have a chance to read some of this documentation.

The community definitely should appreciate you giving us status updates. I wish they were coming from TH though. He should know how badly all the community is wanting to see those docs. We don't need hard dates...just an idea of what the process is, where we are in that process, and estimates on how long each phase of the process takes, which you've done well.

And, to the statement above...what about those going in the opposite direction grinding towards Master? Should we hold off grinding until after we see the docs? How would you rate your excitement(scale of 1-> 10, 10 being high)on where Pistoleer is headed?

I am very grateful for the job Randonb is doing and i especially appreciate that Randonb gives the dates when other correspondents havent/won't. I haveread the crap users give to the correspondents and the fact that Randonb still goes on a limb and releases what he can knowing 25% of the readers (the noisiest ones) will probally flame him for the next week is appreciated by me.

As with anything in life the majority is usually silent while the minority takes the spotlight.

Thanks and I look forward to the documentation release.

yes, the dates are very much appreciated.. and of course he is going out on a limb and openning himself up to flames/burns/abuse/whatever by giving them.. I've learned my lesson. Basically as other's have said.. it's all fluff until we can actually see something for ourselves.

not saying it's anything the correspondants can control, as it definately isn't (everything is so top secret.. is SOE based out of a missile silo somewhere or what).

but just comparing it to other communities I've been a part of, the difference is astounding in a negative sense.

I appreciate the efforts that these guys put out, I know there are definately a ton of frustrated paying customers (and I think it's pretty lousy that soe doesn't *employ* someone to handle this flak better). But, having said that, the idea I get is that TH was once a correspondant like any other.. dealing with the frustrations and outbursts of others. You'd think he would push hard to get more of this documentation (even rough outlines of what each profession is going to be - which they are meant to combat, which they are meant to support, etc) out there to pull some of the heat off of the people soe has put in this position.

I am going out on a limb, so don't burn me too badly.

My estimate was under the assumption that the first review doc would get posted for the correspondents very very soon, which it hasn't yet. At least now you know the process. I would still cry if it took longer than 2 weeks, but you know, I have no real way of knowing when the ball is going to get rolling..

I'm sorry guys, it looks like I'm going to have to completely retract my personal ETA.

It was an experiment, and well, maybe I should stick to reporting dev ETAs, no matter how much I want to tell good news. I'll keep you posted.

IF YOU DON'T WHO THE H E L L does? Seriously, **edit** IS GOING ON? WHY? WHEN? HOW? This whole Corr. junket was a nice little rim job for all the corr.'s so they'd settle and play nice while sony reemed a few thousand more dollars out of the players.
