Think I mastered In December 2003. Never dropped it... picked up Dirty Fighting for a while when I thought about hologrinding smuggler but I'd burnt out by then and just got CM back again.
Did another adjustment this weekend as well, am now
Master Pistoleer
4/0/0/4 CM
Novice Doctor (from 4/0/0/0 Doc)
Novice Brawler
12 Skillpoints in FS skills, including Ranged Speed, which still seems broken. 
I made that adjustment as I only PvE these days, I do like 4/0/0/0 Doc for PvP.

I often wonder why I've been a Pistoleer all this time.
I often thought of going rifleman, but then I'd miss dodge too much.
I think the defining moment for me was about six months ago when I was with a group in the DWB and a Death Watch Wraith let off one of his bugged armour ignoring area rifle 9k a hit specials and all the rifleman in the group died, but I dodged it.
That and I made a rifleman on another server but quickly got bored with it.
Pistoleer is very funny though, it's great fun to out live FOTM templates and ram that fact down their necks.
I'm the underdog, the one everyone roots for... the one that gets his victories through pure blood sweat and tears, not aLegendary Power Hammer, Krayt Speed Sliced Flamer or Krayt T-21.

The real trick is to make them think you have it. If they think you have BH pistols you are an excellent pistoleer.
