what are the best trees to get first in pistoleer? stances, techniques, grips or marksmanship?

Their are many posts on this pistoleer forum to answer your question, but to save you time to look ill just save you time. Go for fanshot first, and once you reach that, go for accuracy. Then just go to the dodging tree, the combat exp you get by then should be near done.
Also, once you reach fanshot, get a full doctor buff(5-6k) and hunt savage quenkers on dantooine.

If you go up Pistoleer in this order: Techniques, Grips, Marksmanship you will be 4-4-4-3 with combat XP left over to get. If you go up BH or Smuggler as well you'll get the combat XP quickly.

id say he should get marksmanship after techniques,
