Thread: Are the pistoleer defenses worth getting on their own?

I was considering grabbing the pistoleer state defense line for my char, but the FAQ seems to be confused on whether they work without a pistol equipped.
I read a post that contradicted it, but then was reading a recent Pistoleer revampe post and someone mentioned that they are not working as they should...
So is it worth getting these defenses to augment another ranged prof?

I think they work just fine, they are good to get if you already have marksman and dont have enough points to get fencer or something.
