Thread: What if Dual Wield was a special???

Ok, it's a crazy idea. But before you discard the idea entirely, hear me out.

1. Melee already has berserk, a nice little special that boosts your damage output for a period of time.

2. There is already controversy about where exactly dual should be an attainable skill...do we reserve it for masters, put it at novice, or let increased skill "unlock" different weapons?(If the latter, then by extension I would have to be a master with capped xp to use 2 De-10s....)

3. Speed cap is already attainable with skill tapes or BH pistols + Master, and these are the folks that should be able to use this ability to its fullest.

4. Different weapons all have different characteristics. Not even including slices or powerups, unless you are using guns with identical serial numbers, you will be dealing with different speeds, recoil characteristics, and accuracy modifiers.

Since you should have SOME skill with a pistol before you can use two of them, this could go at Pistols IV in marksman. This would allow Bounty Hunters access to the skill in a limited fashion. Similar to unarmed damage increasing dramatically once you hit novice TK, a novice pistoleer wouldsee much more of a benefit than someone with just Pistols IV, with its effect increasing as you move up the trees. At the cap we have master pistoleer, the only one capable of using /dualWield2. (An appropriate analogy would be the special PBA1 at novice marks coverting to MTPS at master).

This special would eliminate the speed cap and different weapon problems, and would also prevent us from having to run around with a gun in each hand 24/7. Currently to change weapons you just click the new one in your hotbar...if you were actually holding two guns which one does it replace?

The way I envision this working is, when you click the icon/hit F4 or whatever to start the special, same as berserk, your toon draws a "ghost" version of the piece you are already packing in the other hand and you are seen firing two guns of the same type until your timer runs out.

Ok, fine, that's all great and all, but what does it actually DO FOR ME?????

Well, that depends on how good ya are......

Basic version is identical to berserk, increased damage, HAM cost is applied when you initiate the special ( include a chance of failure---see it as you forgot to click the safety, or it stuck in the holster, whatever)

------By the way, exactly where ARE our holsters??????----

No specials are allowed with the base model, just a straight damage boost. I think a percentage would be much better than a straight point boost here.

As you progress up the ladder, your duration and damage mod both increase. Accuracy penalty should not go down, as your accuracy improves naturally this will counterbalance the issue. Which tree the mods go in is up for grabs, but I would say NOT techniques since this is the tree that everyone takes anyway. That makes those 14 points way overpowered compared to the others.

Master level version--all of the above (only better )

This version would allow the use of specials. To keep things balanced, the base version at master level should hit harder (have a higher damage bonus), but DW2 would have the same duration and a lower (say 50% of DW1) damage mod to reflect the concentration you are devoting to using your specials....but a stopping shot from a master using DW2 will most definitely get your attention!!!! You would accrue HAM costs when starting the DW2 and each time you use a special (same price as what you are paying now---this is meant to be a boon not a bane after all).

Told you it was a crazy idea......

Flame away!!!!!!!!

(You may fire when ready.)

YEa but why should someone that has one great gun get the same benefit as someone with two. For instance there is a scatter on my server with a 600 damage mind dot, so he would get two of them? That is not fair at all lol. Also I have two de-10s that I am saving for duel weild, might have some dust by time we get it, but I want to use them both not just one and a ghost one.

Why? Because as a master pistoleer you have more character points to spend on medic or ch or any of the other great proffessions out there.

As a BH / Master pistoleer, you have many many more points invested.
