Thread: Pistoleer/TKA tactics?

I see posters all the time talking about having both the Pistoleer and TKA classes, and I am wondering what lessons a veteran in this blend can pass along to a novice. I find the pistol XP comes so easily, and I truly have to focus on trying to switch to VK simply to earn Unarmed XP, and for little else, though lairs seem to fall faster with speed sliced VKs and /berserk1...


To the TKA/Pistoleers out there: What tactics and macros have you come to use regularly, what style of play has led to to this combo? What are the practical reasons for being TKA as well as Pistoleer? What advantages? Please be thurough.


I myself fell into this combo by accident, naturally progressing form my prerequisites for the Smuggler class. As a Master Smuggler, I am thinking of Mastering both Pistoleer and TKA as well. I spend almost all my time fighting PvE humanoids these days, but I'm starting to return to hunting creatures for armor enhancements. Sincehumanoids are primarily ranged attackers, TKA hasnt been a great deal of help.

In pve you can use supression fire 1 (if you have it in the marksman prof) to lower their stance run up and switch to your vk's and go to town. Also what skills do you have now ???


On chimaera at 0/0/01 i just used unarmed hit 2 because that is a good attack to use in pve.


i suggest you go 0/0/4/4 then what ever else. You get plenty of damage mods in the 3rd tree and that makes it alot easier to kill things. Also get good fast low ham cost vk's.


It depends what you what to go up first, pistol or unarmed. I would personally do Graul Mualer missions on Dant (11k missions) and use pistol with buffs and all the good food like aircake, along with muon and vasarian brandy. Great exp along with plenty of cash rewards !!!

Anyone with pistoleer/tka who wants a posture change or KD attack is going to go into the smuggler DF line...So suppresion fire is pointless. here's the idea... panicshot (10 second delay), lowblow (kd), run up, tka, knockdown2 (kd with chance to dizzy) until they are dizzy, then feel free to use watever. Pull out a cdef pistol and auto attack...they flat out aren't ever going to get up.

panic shot is bein changed to where when you use it the effect goes away when the target is hit again..

Actually, panic shot may not fall victim to the warcry nerf. Discussions are being held with devs about this. Anyone who reads the smuggler boards know that we cry foul as much as the pistoleers do, and taking away one of the best parts of our profession is just downright unconcionable. Panic shot still has a hope.


As to teh original posted question, I agree with the spamming low blow till they drop to the ground grabbin their family jewels, then rushing up to finish them off with KD2 and mind hit, since they cant heal that one.

A valid point when comming from a TKA base, but I'm sort of going the other way atm- a pistoleer taking on TKA. I suppose the opposite route would hold this way: your sick of being knocked down and dizzy when the target closes.


Dosent make for fast Unarmed XP, but switching to VKs when the mid-level stuff gets in your face appears a practical use for this combo.

If this does get pushed through as you state, it will be the most exploitable nerf in the game- or is the 10s timer staying as well (what's the point then?)

the 10 seconds stays as well... the point is the devs aren't quite on the ball yet as far as what should and shouldn't be nerfed. WC2 needs a nerf, a 20 second delay is game over for anyone. WC1 and panic shot are fine. If they feel the need to nerf, then why don't they just reduce hte delay time of panic shot and WC1 to 5 seconds and WC2 to 10 seconds? Not real sure...
