I'm not a pistoleer, but was thinking about becoming one sometime and I was wondering how big of a difference there is between regular firearm strike from 0100 marksman and advanced firearm strike from 3000 pistoleer?

I think the only difference is the damage it does (which is miniscule anyway), I don't think that the chance to KD is any less. I'll have to test it.

When i first got the improved/advanced (i have pistols 4000 so which evere that gives) i could have sworn it was hitting for around 700 damage (compared to around 900 with bodyshot), however this doesnt seem the case at all now. I was probably just reading wrong at the time. I dont remember seeing a failed to knockdown your opponent for a very long time however, so its possible the advanced versions improve that.

Advanced Firearm Strike is great.

I have yet to see it fail. The only time it does, if someone else get's teh K'D before you or the K'D timer is still on. Since I'm part combat medic, I tend to use this as it's a guaranteed knockdown when you're up close and personal.

I also have this tied to a macro to /slap %target%. It's a nice touch and adds realism to the animation.

I still like it, and use it on occassion. The zip bar is a bit disconcerting. Oh, also for Jedi -PVP, this works better than Underhand Shot as this is technically a melee strike and not a ranged strike. So this will ignore the PSG or Saber Blockand have a higher chance of hitting.

Wrong. The type of attack ( melee-ranged) is determined by the weapon, not the style of attack. Otherewise pistol wip would be kinetic dmg and you'd never land one as you have no melee acy mods, and the + throw range arms would help with saber throw. Melee is melee, ranged is ranged and never the twain shall meet in a single weapon.

Saberthrow is a 32m range melee attack, firearm strike is a 7m ranged atack. As to improved dmg, I'm seing like 16-20 point dmg on my wip, and thats at master. Dmg is negligable, it's about the KD and I agree with earlier posters, with wip I almost never fail to KD, even on lvl 85 MOB's.

Good Point, but I beg to differ.

Look at the description: From CTRL - S

Firearm Strike: This melee attack with your ranged weapon is useful for close encounters.

Firearm Strike works because a jedi's saber can't block it. Unless of course that jedi chops your arm off. Hmmn there's not enough arm chopping in the game. How many arms have been lopped off in the movies!

Anyways, the point of the matter is: Firearm Strike works, and works well. You're within saber range, but then again if you're using a pistol, you're within saber throw range anyways....

It's easy to test, I have. You can't tell me I'm wrong because SOE says so in the skills description. They also used to claim disarm dmged weapons, stop has been a root since launch, and that adv wip is stronger than itself.

" Becasue SOE says so" doesn't carry alot of weight. Duel someone and have them equip a PSG. Use an energy weapon and hit em with wip, if their PSG takes dmg it's a ranged attack, if not it's melee.

( it takes dmg)

a side note about saber block, it only blocks dmg. So if you use firearm strike and it is +blocked+ the KD effect carries thru +block+, same with torso shot's DOT and Intimidation shot. Block DOES NOT stop DOT's or states, only dmg. So in effect it will look like the KD avoids block, but it's a bug with the block effect, not what would amount to clever programming on SOE's part.
