Thread: I have a total of 37 skill points to spend on Pistoleer, what are the best skills to use it on?
I'm curious. I'm very seriously thinking of going pistoleer, but I only have 37 total skill points left. What would be the best boxes to go for to take up these 37 points in Pistoleer (btw, 6 of those points must be spent on novice). Are there any two particularladders I should work my way up?
Thanks
Anian
If you already have novice with those 37 skillpoints, id get 0442 pistoleer (pistol melee defense 1 can help quite abit if you dont have any other knockdowns). If you dont have novice yet definitely get 0440.

I'd definately suggest going Pistoleer--if you can combine Medic or Doctor with it. As long as you can stim, you will never die. If you don't already have some basic medic skills, you could still benefit from some pistol specials, but don't expect it to be your primary offensive pattern.
I usually bleed the enemy first, then shoot on the run untilmy H or A drops below 30% or so--at that point,I use one stim andI'm back at H100% A100%. I just repeat thisuntil enemy is dead. So far I've soloed Dragonets and Tusken Captains with a little stim help... all with no armor and my little FWG5.
I wouldn't suggest getting Carbine or Rifle (as one disgruntled poster suggested) as the melee damage penalties will MURDER you in PvE (I would regularly get hit for 1.5k when I played asa Rifleman). In my experience, Rifleman think all professions rock but them, Carbineers think all professions rock but them, and Pistoleers think all professions rock but them... as someone who's played all three, I can tell you that Pistoleers currently have the edge in overall advantages.
Pistol gives you the advantage of a close range knockdown and no damage penalty when things get melee with you (so you can survive long enough to knockdown, threatenshot or suppression fire). If you've got a Carbine you'll be burning through your Action like nobody's business, and if you've got a Rifle... well... get used to seeing the inside of that cloning center (now that I'm a Pistoleer, I actually miss it :0)
If you don't have medic skills to bolster you, youWILL feel a little underpowered as a Pistoleer, especially after the (much needed) FWG5 nerf. So whether or not you want to takeit up will depend on what you want to do with your character--it's the best choice for me becauseI attack with H/A and stim with Mind, so I can live long enough to lay down the damage necessary to counter the fact that I'm hitting in smaller chunks.
Even so, you'll have a better chance taking up some basic Pistoleer thaneither Carbineer or Rifleman--though many disgruntledPistoleers disagree (most of those haven't played the other classes for comparison, unlike me)it's really the easiest and most profitable ranged profession to 'dabble' in... you'd need to make a serious commitment to Carbineer or Rifleman to see any noticable improvement in your deadliness.
BTW, I have enough points left over for two trees of Pistoleer, and I'm currently going 0/0/4/4 (Special Attacks and Speed Tree). Any flaws in accuracy are easily adjusted with 'Aim' (I still hit more often with my FWG5 at 60m then I did with my Laser Rifle).Hope this helps.
