I have one word to describe the difficulty we have with high level MOBs

sigh.. pistoleer was my first profession, actually I wanted to be the good pistoleer. But honestly, after I get master (I"m currently 4-2-4-3) I find that I'm just too weak to do anything. The rate of fire really needs to be increased as the distance get's shorter. PVE is very tuff, and PVP well no use even trying unless I spend more points on BH. It's kinda sad, I see master TKM's solo'ing nests of creatures, self buffing, and here I am using the same tree structure, and I can't even close do the same nests. I'm reallly have a hard time clearing nests and missions that I think would be somewhat easy and just get dissappointed with how weak we really are. I can't go PVP cuz I last 5 seconds or less. I may go BH but it's sad to have to spend all the points doing that just to get up to the level others are at.

There is a big difference between where you are now in pistoleer and Master. Heck, there is even a big difference between 4444 and Master. Keep at it and you may be pleasently surprised with the results. I know I was.

Without using any of my other skills, just master pistoleer i do perfecty find in geonosion, buffed and in armor none the less, but im fine until i get to the last two rooms, which you need a group to get through anyway usually. Nightsisters are another story, i have to use Flame and Feign against them.

Just so you know, TKA have the same AP problem and a lot of the high mobs are very resistant to kinetic, but on things that are weak TKA's do rock

I'll chime in to agree but also to encourage

I began playing shortly after release, and recently came back to SWG after a few months away. I have to say there have been a lot of changes, but one thing I predicted as being an increasing problem for pistoleers was armor and armor penetration. That said I was kind of shocked at my first exposure to the current situation as regards player armor and the incredibly good composite that seems easily available on every server.

High resist, high AR mobs were relatively rare and more or less were unimportant at the time - there weren't any loot-based weapons or weapons enhancements. When I stopped playing the kryat tissues were just being added. And players rarely wore much armor and the armor they did wear wasn't as good. So the AP issue with pistols wasn't obvious - you sort of had to go out of your way to run into AR 1 mobs that weren't vulnerable to heat or acid, or to fight someone with a full suit of composite armor.

Now this is completely the opposite. Mobs with lots of HAM, very effective resists, and high ARs are important to every combat profession for weapons enhancement loot. It's more rare to find a player PvPing without full armor and full buffs, than it is to find one with. And this contributes to the decline of pistoleers and the further rise of riflemen (riflemen were already reaching the level of FOTM when I quit, only the 2.5x melee damage modifier kept their numbers from sky-rocketing).

The encouragement I have to offer is pretty scant... but it's still encouragement. The Pistoleer profession can't go anywhere but up from here, balance-wise. The armor situation will have to be ameliorated in the future, either through improved weapons for pistoleers (and for carbineers, fencers, and possibly pikemen and commandos)or nerfs will have to be directed towards armor.

Just keep your fingers crossed on the new pistol... Maybe we can get AP2 finally.

Geonosians are also weak against launchers so a Master Pistoleer/Commando will do well.

I don't think we are screwed. I can not speak to the Geo cave since I was only there once and did poorly, but that was as much due to my own stupidity as anything else. About Nightsisters I can speak, and while they are not easy (nor should they be), as long as I keep my distance I can take them down two at a time. Always examine your enemy and make sure you are using the correct weapon.

I'd rather be "pleasantly surprised" if it turns out to have AP2. I don't know any more about it than you guys do.

I feel your pain though. I seldom pull out anything but the Republic Blaster or the DX2 in high level content. The FWG5 is nice, but when up against medium or heavy armor, I just don't find myself reaching for it often.

hmm guys i have no idea what you are all talking about....

every time i go to the geo caves i use my DX2 gun! non-krayt, regular, with 35% dmg slice!. its a 120-215 dmg gun. with 2.2s, iuse a powerup with 33% dmg on it. and thats all.

I OUT DAMAGE ENTIRE TEAMS WITH ONLY FAN SHOT!!!!!!!!!!

ppl yell at me why i'm damage stalking...and stuff like that.

all i do is lay prone at the 15m - 20m and shoot fan shots at the Geos......

the trick is to pick the right type of gun (damage) to the right type of target.

for example the geos have complete vulenrability to acid!!! that makes them totaly naked to the Dx2!!!

only prof that can out-damage me, as master pistoleer, is a bounty hunter with fanshot. (tech 4) and a scatter.

You guys that are saying things are fine have another combat profession on top of pistoleer. Scatter is a BH weapon, feign is smuggler. DX2, yes it is pistoleer gun but it'sawefully slow, even with a good slice. Apistoleer with no additional combat skills knows exactly how terrible we are truly are.

Yes, there are things wrong with Pistoleer.

Yes, a Master Pistoleer is a valid combat profession.

With buffs, good armor, and a variety of pistols (mostly a Republic Blaster, DX2, FWG5, and Genosian Blaster or "Banana Blaster") I can take out most mobs even when alone. I hunt alone on Endor and never worry a bit about going down. I take down opponents quickly with the variety of weapons, even though some have no AP or light AP. I took down a Nightsister solo on Dath once. I took down a TKM in a spur-of-the-moment duel when I had wounds from disease that brought my health down to 399 within 30 seconds. (Neither of us was buffed.)

I like my pistols. :-)
