Thread: Deciding on a Ranged Weapon Template Your advice welcome
I am currently working my way up the Marksman tree, and I am trying to decide which weapon type will suit my playstyle. I am NOT interested in debating which is superior.
I am currently looking into either a pistol/smuggler combo, a bounty hunter, or a carbineer/something.
I have a strong interest in PvP, but believe its futile to think that its a 1 on 1 game.... I prefer well coordinated groups for PvP. I also would like something that is non-combat related, to give me something to do on the side.
Smuggler - Has several non-combat skills, as well as some special moves... combined with Pistoleer, I am wondering how well he would do in a PvP situation. And what type would he excel at. Will range be a big problem? Will I worry about melee? Is TKA a good addition to this template.... I can master all three as long as I only take the first ranged support skill. But would an action attack class and a pistoleer be worthwhile? Would it be useful to just take TKA for its defense bonuses?
BH - My questions regarding this class have nothing to do with the BH tree. I am wondering if the scout tree provides a worthwhile sense of non-combat. Is harvesting worthwhile, perhaps if I take ranger to max that out? Will harvested items from creatures be in-demand as a supplement to my BH skills?
Carbineer - This weapons sounds like a solid PvP supression weapon, which would go well in a group. I am not sure what to couple with this though, to give me some useful side-talents.
I am trying to think about the big picture here, not about whos special attack is over-powered, or why this or that is better currently. I want to know waht types of role each of these will have in the long run, especially with regard to PvP...
Your thougths welcome... but again, I am not looking to debate the state of the game, nor the individual differnces.
(1) Slayer: Pistol Master/BH Pistol Line/BH Carbine to 3
Practically a one shot one kill, kinda character. Many many options in virtually every pvp situation. Playing this class requires some study since the idea is to kill your opponent as rapidly as possible without taking damage yourself, since this template has 0 healing skill. Evaluation of opponents armor, Ham bars, knowing which pistol would give you the best advantage etc. This template fits theduelist well. In a group this character can deliver a ton of damage extremely fast and has a myriad of special abilities.
(2) Slayer Modified: Pistol Master/BH Pistol Line to 3rd tier/Novice Medic
As above, missing a high damage+dot shot, but now has some low grade healing capabilities. If your pretty much a solo player and want to save a ton of down time. You almost have to have some basic healing. Although PVP battles tend to be over in the "blink of an eye" when masters are fighting masters, having novice medic can be a life saver with well made Stim Dose A's when fighting Mobs, and if your lucky enough to be Pvping ina chaotic situation with lots of running around, with lots of buildings, alleys, and tight corners then even in PVP just having stim dose A's can give you the edge you need in a fight.
(3)Mr. Flexible: Master Pistoleer/Master Smuggler/Master Teras Kasi
I have seen this template before and it has much to recommend it.It divides your strengths into many good areas. The Master Teras Kasi's meditation skills eliminates much of the downtime, but offers little for on the spot emergency healing which can be critical. The smuggler line allows your character to have a worthwhile trade. Weapons and Armor degrade at a sufficient rate that you will always have a way to make money, not to mention the higher level spices which give a huge edge in lightning fast Pvp combat. It allows you to engage in both melee and pistols equally well. It also has a huge surprise factor in single Pvp. If you walk around as a Teras Kasi and Joe Gunfighter challenges you to a duel thinking he is gonna kite you to death, and he suddenly find a fist size hole in his back from the blaster you suddenly produced, makes this template one to consider.
(4) Sniper/Quickshot: Master Marksman/Master Pistoleer/Master Rifleman/Choice of Various Medical Skills
Very Deadly Combo. At long range this is just plain evil. Switching back and forth between Pistol Disarm Shot Knock Down and Rifle head shot can just about waste anything in this game. Much like the Teras Kasi that gets you on the ground, if you get the first knock down and lose this fight, then it's your own fault. With some preparation I believe this template could probally solo anything that can be knocked down in the game. The high end rifle has an AF of 3 and will do high damage to anything. The ability to switch back and forth and do high damage at any range makes this template superb.
(5) Combat God (at least for now): Master Pistoleer/Master Marksman/BH 2nd tier pistol/CH 3rd tier Taming
As long the CH class is as effective as it is this template allows you to tame and basically use deadly creatures, be an expert in pistols and get BH mind pool eye shot. All together this combo is very effective in both PVP and PVE.
