Thread: Ouch... self-damaging specials are killing me (literally)
*ahem* REALITY CHECK
Ok, *rubs hands together* lets get down to work
First of all: you should probably be getting buffed at this point. It's always a good thing. in PvE and PvP depending on what you're doing. Right now, your speed is pretty high, but not at the most it can be, so you're still not even at the highest speed yet. Buffs would take care of you eating through your HAM so quickly.
Second: You, if you get master pistoleer, you will hit the speed cap aka 1 special every 1 second aka +100 pistol speed. that is the lowest anyone can go. No matter what your pistol speed is. once you hit that, a weapon with infinatly high speed would still do1 special every 1 second. So you should be looking into a high dmg pistol soon, not speed as the main focus.
Third: We are not insanely fast. As only a master pistoleer, we do not hit the speed cap, and thus we do not do 1 special every 1 second. In your case, you will, but I'm just whining about that. Riflemen/carb do hit the speed cap. Yes thats right: a rifleman with a 10.8 speed t21 attacks faster than a master pistoleer. Not only that, their specials do MORE damage, and attack the MIND (the best thing to attack in PvP)
Fourth: I do not know of any food you can eat to raise your quickness other than tatooine sunburn, and drugz (pixie)
Fifth: A macro for healthing yourself every five seconds would look something like this i believe
/healself;
/pause 5
/ui actionToolbarSlot xx
xx being the number slot you put the macro icon in. I think this is the right macro for it. if im wrong go to the medic/doctor fourms btw, the xx works from top to bottem, left to right.
Sixth: I don't think dodges have been fixed, just like everything else has not been fixed. They do work in the sense that do dodge, but they stall you because of faulty animation. ex: if you are running, following something while shooting, and it shoots back, and you dodge, you will sidestep, and not keep moving forward, whereas your target will. you will then resume running after a 2-3 ( i think )second pause, and you will eventually loose your target becase of this.

If you cannot or don't wish to get buffs I have found that the new drink accaram to be fairly effective. I have some that gives +350 to all three action stats for about 40 minutes. You could take two at once.... I prefer to overlap them one every thirty minutes. I back that up with kiwik swirl (food) that give another 200-300 to the two sub stats under action for those action intensive moments
Another way to go.... vasarian brandy. The stuff I have gives a boost of +360 to all mind for about 35-40 minutes. Heal away!

Hey guys watsup.
I am a BH 0040, pistoleer 0031, medic 2200and i have a huge problem with doing tons of damage to my own action bar when I spam eye shot/torso shot/ stopping shot etc.
In fact, I usually do more damage to myself than my opponent does! This has become a big problem, i need to constantly heal myself and my mind is always getting drained because of it.
Basically I was wondering if:
1) I should be spamming specials in the first place. In this instance, i feel like our insane speed as pistoleers is actually hurting us. The other guys (rifleman, carb) do more damage at slower speeds, and thus take much less self-inflicting ham damage.
2) Is there a special spice or food i should be eating to raise my quickness.
3) Are there any macros that pistoleers use that use stimpacks every five seconds to heal (a stretch I know but Im desperate)
And on a side note, have dodges been fixed to the point of actually being useful? I've heard yesses and nosabout this for a really long time and Im wondering if i should invest skill points in pistoleer dodges.
Thanks in Advance
Ok, first of all, you are at your speed cap for all Bh and pistoleer specialsas long as your using a gun with 2.9 speed or less.
Since you did not say whether you are doing PVP or PVE, I can only speculate on what you need to do.
Now looking at your template, you have no defense at all that's worth anything if your doing PVP and only somewhat helpful if your doing PVE. Basically, medic is your defense. You are all offense and at your speed you will be killing yourself when spamming specials because you basically have no choice. IN PVP, You do want to poor on the offense unless you have uber defense (which is by far more important in PVP in my opinion).......In PVE, you don't have to spam any special at all as long as you have decent defense. Remember also, there is a little thing called strategy and tactics. It's not always about killing your target as fast as possible. Sometimes, it's very difficult to take down something thats got medium armor, high resist and does pretty good damage.....this is where defense and your tactics come into play. In PVP, is all about not getting hit if you can help it, because just about everyone can dish out some pretty good damage in PVP and a lot of the times it comes down to who can't hit more often for pretty good damage.
You have about 28 skill points left and I would suggest that you put them in defensive fields because right now, your defense is not much better than a Master Marksman or novice pistoleer....give or take a few points here and there. +40 to the def vs *** mods are nice, but still they are just average. The dodge does work very well too. My pistoleer dodge works less often than my fencer dodge does, but both are still very effective. I rarely take more than 10 hits in a fight vs nightsisters.I once fought a nightsister spell weaver that had medium armor, about 5 or 6 100% resist to all my attacks....she was vulnerable to stun though so I used my stun baton. She never hit me with physical blows during the whole fight....she did get me with force choke though.....I know I had to hit her well over 50 times to kill her......that's all due to defense and not spamming speicials. Basically, spamming specials made little difference due to my weaker stun baton and her high defense....it was my defense the got me through the fight with only scratches.......Oh yeah, I didn't have any mind buffs....only focus and willpower which were around 1000 - 1300. Also, I had some sad doc buffs.....highest one was 1900....lowest one was 900 (3 below 1000).
What I suggest is that you either get musician buffs or use food buffs.
Entertainer buff benefits are that they last up to 2 hours if buffed by a master musician. They will buff your Focus and Willpower. This means that you can use your medic skills to heal yourself for very little HAM Cost. You then won't kill your mind pool with specials or healing.
Downside to entertainer buffs is that they can be hard to find and you have to pay for them. So if you happen to die somewhere, you then end up spending at least 30 minutes in travel time, searching for a entertainer who's willing to buff, waiting 5 - 10 minutes for the buff and then paying for it.
Second option is food buffs. The good thing is that you can buy them in bulk and they are available to you anytime you want. They can be expensive when buying crates, but well worth it. with the new foods, they now last longer and can be more powerful. I suggest that you get a good relationship going with a chef who you can make some kind of arrangement with so he/she can keep you supplied. Maybe gather the resources yourself and supply the chef with them to cut some of the cost.
When it comes to specials, healing, regeneration of HAM.....the main stats are the secondary stats.
getting your strength, quickness and focus high enough can potentially make all your specials and heals cost NO HAM at all. For example, withmy current stats, I can have about 1200+ on these 3 stats and my specials cost either nothing (depending on the specials cost and HAM cost of the weapons I'm using) or 1 - 7 points.
Consititution, Stamina and willpower will make your health, action and mind regenerate faster if you buff these stats. In the event that you get these stats high enough, you can possibly regenerate your HAM used from a special before you even get the next special off....yes even spamming at once per second.
here is some of the foods that I rely on:
(drink) breath of heaven. it boost your strength, quickness and focus. good for when you want to spam specials to your hearts content. the pre-patch BOH would allow you todrink1 at one time. I still have some pre-patch BOH because I bought crates of it and 1 gives me about550 - 600 (depends on how good the chef craftedit)each to strength, quickness and focus for almost 10 minutes. The new BOH, is a little better because it can boost your stats higher and last at least 30 minutes (I think). Since it takes your stomach 30 minutes to empty after eating foods and drinks now.....you can pop some more when they wear off. I"m not sure on how many post-patch BOH's you can drink at once now.
(food) Ryschake. this boost the same thing as BOH. the pre-patch last about 7 minutes and you can eat 3 at once. the average boost they give is about 400 (times 3...that's 1200 buff). They stack on top of BOH and any doc buffs or entertainer buffs you have.
I'm a Human Master Marksman, Master Pistoleer, Master Fencer, Medic. So I have great defenses and being human, I can migrate my stats to anything, but currently my stats are:
HTH- 875
STR- 525
CON- 425
-------------------------
ACT - 900
QUK - 525
STA - 425
-------------------------
MND - 750
FOC - 525
WILL - 450
I use some other foods that boost my consititution, stamina and willpower only when I can't find buffs. I can't remember the names of all of them. most of my food buffs are pre-patch since I have crates and haven't run out yet.
For some of the newer foods, you can get some of the following:
Vagnerian Canape - boost FOCUS and WILLPOWER (about 10 minutes) fills stomach - 39 (so you can eat 2)
Vercupti of Agazza - boost HEALTH, ACTION, MIND (about 7 minutes) fills stomach - 69
Breath of Heaven - boost STRENGTH, QUICKNESS, FOCUS for potential of 1000. fills stomach - 67
Smugglers delight - reduces downtime of next spice taken by 45%(muon gold or neutron pixie are the main ones) fills stomach - 28 I mention this one because I like to take muon gold and the downer last for 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
I hear theres some kind of brandy that is great too...but I haven't come across it yet so I don't have any info on it.
Theres some others that might benefit you also....but i can't find my other list....so I can't give you the exact ones right now.
Your best bet is to get doc buffs and entertainer buffs if you can afford them. ON my server they run about 6k - 10k for doc buffs and whatever you want to tip for entertainer buffs. I usually tip entertainers about 3k - 5k. If you are on Ahazi server, go to dantooine. there are 2 master entertainers there by the name of Leg's (master Dancer) and Ohso (Master Musician). They buff all day long (macro's). They are my main ent. buffers and since they provide great convenience to me I tip them well. IF your not on my server then you can always go to any cantina, find a master musician or DAncer that's in a entertainer group, ask the leader to invite you and then just watch/listen to the masters and get the buffs (make sure you tip
). Sometimes you just can't find a master, Virtuoso is the title of Musicians that can give buffs....they are level 4 in the buffing area. it will only get you about a 75% buff from them though, it's better than nothing. I forget the level 4 title of the Dancers.
Just remember that any buff is better than no buff. Just don't pay too much for them. Any food you can get your hands on will help 100 times better than nothing. Always keep some muon on a hotkey or binded to a key on the keyboard so in times of despair you can hit the key and get a instant 500 mind, focus, willpower boost for 10 minutes with a 3 minute 20 second downer after the 10 minutes.
In PVP, never go overt without maximum mind buffs......period. Everyone attacks the mind pool if they can.
armor can affect your HAM cost too. If you can, don't wear it when your far away from your targets and they can hit your. Defense mitigation does wonders at long ranges for pistoleers. When they start doing damage to you and/or get close, hit that hotkey and put your armor on.
If you don't have macro's for switching armor, eating foods, switching weapons....etc. PM me and I'll send you some.
