i started playing this game early augast , it was my first online game and i dove right into it with unbridled enthusiasm . from day 1 i knew i wanted to be a gunfighter and so i started the long and ardous task of levelling ( no armor or buffs like everyone else at the time ). after i had the first few boxes in pistoleer i started visiting the pistoleer forums and soon learnt about damage per second , damage multipliers , speed mods etc . with this knowledge it became apparent that most of the skills / moves in pistoleer were broken / not worth using .

thinking a big company like sony will fix the faults in their products ( not to mention countless assurances from the devs ) i decided to rough it out and concentrate on using my remaining skill points . hence i went on and mastered smuggler and followed it up with tkm . with my triple mastery i found i was lethal in both pvp and pve and i more or less stopped visiting the pistoleer forum because i was sick of the " pistoleer isn't a viable combat class by itself posts " .

after i recieved my first 2 free christmas holo's i decided to give the whole jedi thingee a shot and only 7 professions later ( no artisan and entertainer proffs :smileyhappy i somehow managed to unlock my slot . i soon realized that to level jedi to a decent level will require disgusting amounts of mind numbingly boring grinding ( not to mention millions and millions of credits for pearls / crystals ) and so i switched my attention back to my main and for some sick reason decided to master pistoleer again.

as i write this post i am roughly 150k away from re-mastering pistoleer and surprise surprise our profession is just as broken as it was previously with no solid indication of upcoming fixes . i can honestly say that the only worthwhile thing about the pistoleer profession has been the unbelievable coresspondants we have had , first jaegan then philosopher and now randonb. so my question to anyone who bothered to read this stupid rant is " does one have to be a masochist to be a pistoleer ? "

Excellent post oahep!

As far as your question.

I would say a little masochizm mixed with romantic and a healthy dose of optimist. All these is what probably makes up anyone who chose to master pistoleer and keep it since mid last year. (i.e. Me)

I'm a Combat Medic first, Pistoleer second. I found that these 2 professions work well together. I need my Mind pool for healing and Poisons, so rifleman was out. Carbineer's have the motto of "I can kill me before you can." I didn't want to go into Melee fighting.....I had enough of that in EQ. Pistoleer have been a pretty fun little addition to my game play. Besides, I usually only need 2 or 3 specials anyway. Knockdown from Pistol Melee Defense 1 works well when you need to get some distance from the target. Fan shot is pretty good for support of the main combat people on the team, it hits all the targets in front of you. Health Shot 2 puts a DOT on the target, which may not sound big, but helps along the damage process in combat, especially when you use health poisons.

Pistoleer, so far, is just a good addition to another class. Not really able to stand on it's own yet. That's why Smuggler and BH use the pistoleer tree as well. It has great bonuses in the tree, just nothing in the way of good specials for those Ultra Combat players.

27 September 2004 (03:10 PM) - Smuggler_Caylin tells fellow smugglers that he is stepping down as Smuggler Correspondent.
