while i was a master smuggler a lot of people ran tests on sliced weapons and the results were that slicing does not effect rate of decay. the factors which did effect rate of decay were powerups and the frequency of specials used .

the rate of decay of armor is based on the amount of damage it blocks , hence a armor that has been sliced for effect will block more damage and subsequently will decay faster .

this information is pretty old so if anyone has conducted tests more recently with different results i apologize for the misinformation.

Yet many players feel that the time saved from using powerups (you kill faster, after all) more than makes up for the cost in both decay and the powerup itself. No real way to accurately test it, so it's just a judgement call. Most weapons I buy presliced, and I use powerups if I so happen to have them on hand (which is fairly often).
