Thread: Randonb, a question about the arguments you make to the devs on our behalf.

I was wondering if you use a "skill point" based argument when trying to convince the devs or other corospondents of out plight. I don't see much of this argument anywhere on the boards and I consider it to be the most telling. Consider the combat professions...


Carbine 92pts

Pistol 92pts

Rifle 92pts

CH 106pts

Comm. 169pts

BH214pts



Shouldn't these numbers be the deciding factor on effectiveness in combat?

If rifle and carbine far outstrip us in DPS due to their AP 2/3 weapons, shouldn't we have some other advantage in combat? We are all equal, after all.


Andit is not just DPS, when you compare our other stats to rifle, we fail to compare miserably. We lose out on speed (15pts), weapon aiming (74pts), ranged defense (65pts), accuracy (15pts).


And what do we get to balance this? An extra 10pts in state change defense and dodge(over block). We don't even get a big jump in melee defense even though melee range, or close to it, is where we are most effective. We get 45pts of melee defense and rifles get 40!


You would think that the devs would have to sit down and actively try to make things this unbalanced.


The more high level content they put in the game, the more this imbalance becomes apparent. We have no skills to counter the loss of dps to professions we should be equal to. And now, the reason we get for having no weapons greater then AP1 is thatthere needs to be more ways to differentiate the weapons other then damage type.


Well great, but what do we get in return?


There has to be somthing added to pistoleer to offset this imbalance. More damage types (that at least some high level mobs are vuln to)? Better defense? More/Varied DoT's? Somthing?


And this is to say nothing of the imbalance of rifle over commando/BH, but that is an argument for another board.

Chances are you've seen me talk about this in a public thread, but I don't have to bring it up very often with the developers.I have mentioned it in the past, and I know Thunderheart knows. If they ever lose their minds and tell me Pistoleer is supposed to be gimped because they have other skilltrees to pull from, well, I won't accept it as an answer.


If you like, I can remind them again next time there is a discussion on the subject. It would be a little rude of me to make a threadjust about thisand have Thunderheart say "Yeah... I know. You've said that." I'll keep it in mind for dropping it into the next discussion though.

I figured you did. And I know that there really isn't much reason to bring up another question to the devs that will just recieve a
"wait for the combat balance" reply. Ijust wanted to voice my opinion.
