Thread: Novice Hunting Help!

I'm a novice Pistoleer and a first time, first character SWG player. I am having a really hard time finding anything worthwhile to hunt with my novice Pistolleer. I have been in a few groups, but I require incredible amounts of exp to gain even the first Pistoleer level and have been going at it for over 2 weeks. Hunting solo pretty much sucks - I gain missions for 1200 credits each, can't manage to take down any Grek bases alone, and must hunt animals to survive those missions. Even so, the 1200 cash missions only gives me about 2500 exp each run, and each of those runs takes me at least 10 minutes.

At that rate I'm not looking to get any of the skill tree advancements anytime soon unless I play constantly for days on end.I have decent Kinetic and Energy resist armor, decent macros, above average power ups and a good pistol. I've read and followed all those strategy guides but can't find anything decent to hunt. Fighting white animal lairs that a mission gives me aren't ever a problem. I am mainly screwing around on Corellia right now but have been on a few other planets. I rarely find anything tougher than whites in small groups, and stuff like the cats on Tant outside of Mos Eisley and the billion of aggro mobs around 2km from Theed just tear me up because they're red or yellow.

It's not that I mind a grind, but I just don't think I'm doing the most efficient thing by hunting whites and doing missions. I mean I'm only on the first baby step to get up the Pistolleer tree and I'm calculating hundreds and hundreds of white-mob missions just to get the first block trained. I have grabbed some major 10k buffs a couple of times, but hunting those whites don't tire me out un-buffed, and taking on yellows or reds just gang up and kill me buffed or not.

I see people talking all the time about how fast they zoomed up the Pistolleer profession and gained those snazzy Fanshot abilities, but for the life of me I can't seem to get out of the 4-6k exp/hour rut I'm in.

What am I missing? I've read plenty but most of those guides and hunting info are dated from Summer of 2003 and obviously outdated. Any advice?

Go to dathmoir and join a rancor hunting group, there will be alot of people there and people will watch out for you and heal you so you don't get killed. I'm assuming you do have medic, but if you don't than you need it. You should also get all the various guns and examine your targets for their weakness to an damage type. Use a dx2 on rancors.

A big help is to get buffed (usually 10k from a doctor.. lasts for about 3 hours), get kinetic armor (ubese try to get 60% kinetic but its easy to find 70%, the price for these will vary.. around 60k for a whole suit but if you are smart you can get it for less and I ahve hunted without armor and been okay), andsome brandy (the best is +400 to the mind but you could get by with +200, this lasts for about 40 min... prices range but its not that expensive). Thebuff and brandy are most important followed by armor. This may take a little while to get but once you have it go toone of the non core planets.. dantooine is a popular one and do missions there.. I would suggest doing quenker missions because they are easy andquenkersdontdeath blow.

Ask someone who has a helper tag and ask them to help you out .. (ie for info and they might be nice enough to go with you and watch your back) If you are on kettemoor I would be happy to help you out. Also make sure you have some nice pistols.. dx2, republic, and FWG5 and check what the resist is on whatever you are hunting.

If you have all of the above things you will be able to hunt most places and not worry about a thing. If you get in over your head just run away.. if you die with a buff you lose it.

Great, I'll give those Quenker missions a try. I didn't know that I should grab various pistols for the various bad guys I'll be killing, but it makes sense now that I think about it. I assume I need the brandy to: offset my armor's mind encumbrance, and provide me the ability to use medic skills to heal myself between battles? Or do I need the brandy for something else?

Now I have also been to a bunch of core planets and they always seem to give me the same type of mission - usually 1200 bucks for taking down white Vynoks or Grubers or whatnot. If I go to another planet it's the same mission just different mob names. So you're saying that if I go to Dantoinne and look around I'll find higher paying or higher exp missions even though I'm just a novice Pistolleer?

Thanks in advance for the help..

yeah you should be able to get quenker missions, save up 200k or so for a nice set of ubese armor and that will help too.

The brandy is there so your mind doesnt go down as fast. When you get buffed by a doctor you only get enhanced on 6 states leving the mind still unbuffed. The brandy is a way to get your mind up also, it wont be as high as the doctors buffs but it will still make it so you dont get incapped as easily. On dontooine the minimum level mission that you can get is level 32 meaning that you will be getting much higher missions.. the regular quenker missions are about 5k creditseach and the savage quenkers are about 6.9k credits each. Try to get these missions because they are easy and quenkers dont death blow. You might want to try two quenker misions before you go to the savage quenkers just to make the transition a little easier.

Another tip is to always look at the stats of things... like weapons, armor, enemies, food, etc.. if you want to maximize your experience. The places to look for a buff is in coronet, youcan ind buffs other places including sometimes at the outposts on dantooine but coronet is the place were docs are buffing the most.
