Thread: Pistol changes seem fair, IF our defenses work! Think about it...
We certainly do have a lot of boxes filled with defense modifiers, that currently do absolutely nothing for us.
But can't we be upset about that ![]()
It's worse still, because we're vanilla. We "essentially" have:
1. no single target pool shot
2. No state effect shots
3. PB and melee damage attacks, that are not worth using over the OTHER 3 random HAM ranged attacks we have (why bother accidentally using a special when out of range? most go for the "sure thing")
Why are we a vanilla hybrid of ranged/melee? We're a ranged combat profession...they already have 4 elite combat melee professions, I don't see why we're a blurry smudge in-between, with the worst of both worlds. We've done a lot of testing of the specials in the profession, and no one is really impressed with our results :/
Jeagen, I totally agree that we should be fixed before they hit us with the giant nerf bat, but if our defenses were fixed I dont think we would be a "vanilla" class. The defenses would set us far apart, lower Ham puts us apart coupled with the fact that we dont have to "stopand shoot" while running makes us versatile imo. I do think we should have a cool uplose attack though, thats our fortee.
As far as targeting a single pool, that can be bad insome ways. Carbineers hit action bar, that is usually the highest HAM bar anyway. Rifleman hit mind bla bla bla.....My point is in multi-person groups it is better to focus fire on a single bar, most people are hitting health when not using specials. Thats where we blastaroo!
I played a riflmen, thought it totally sucked. I am not happy about pistol changes, just saying that if our defenses were fixedthe nerfswouldnt beAS bad.

Ok, everyone is complaing about nerf nerf nerf. I am thinking that some of these nerfs seem much more bearable if our defenses worked. I mean, we shouldnt be doing the same dmg as a Carbineer or a Rifleman. A 9mm will not outguna a M60, BUT, the person with the 9mm should be able to move a lot faster, thus allowing for the dodges...parry....stances...low encumberance ...etc etc etc...
Does anyone else see what I am saying here? A pistol is just that, a light weight firearm that allows manuverability, increased reaction times and LOW encumberances (HAM specific). We dont really want to outblast a heavy machinegun do we?>No, we want to be agile -dexterous fighters that are quicker on our feet, harder to knock down, manuverable(sp) and effective at close ranges.
Or am I wrong?

Isn't the reason why it was nerfed in the first place was because people were stacking defensive bonuses from various classes and becoming near invulnerable?
The idiotic designers don't seem to understand the concept of capping bonuses, in so many cases. Just look at how screwed up weapon speed is, for example.
Don't hold your breath hoping for the defenses to become anything useful any time in the near future. Oh my god, I'm realizing that I'm becoming incredibly pissed off right now, so I'll stop here.
I now use BS2 and PBS2 for most times and if they move out of range switch, and pistol whip when needed. fan shoot does a little extra damage, but not enough to waste the skill points on. Now even if the defense started working, I will use my sockets to increase the defense, provided they get skill enhancements working, and they start making me worry about be blinded, dizzied or anything else.
It's just a sad fact that the Devs care more about keeping everyone underpowered then fixing the broken stuff. Just ask Commandos. The Devs have been nerfing every profession across the board while leaving anything broken untouched.
Think about it. Remember when people were using droids to store more then 2 missions? The Devs response to that was to brake Data droids. They'd rather have us all playing broken classes then all reach master in the first couple of months, because as most people reach master they start to get board with the game. If they take a class like pistoleer which already has people at the master level and fix what's broken we will start advancing even faster. That's why they nerf us first. That's why they nerf ALL classes first.
I don't agree with it really, I can just see the Devs train of thought.
