Thread: Grinding Pistoleer and Smuggler

Well, the time has come to try my hand at your profession on my way to a FS slot. I started up the techniques tree and it took a while to get to tech 1 - probably longer than I would have liked! I wonder if anyone can share tips or techniques in order to get xp faster!
Currently I'm killing Crazed Gurreks - they are easy and dont BAF so after stacking a couple of bleeds followed by BS2,they go down fairly fast for 3.5K xp. I have doctor buffs and I will get a musician or food buffs for focus/will next time I go hunting (as I'm a twilek and 500 focus/will is pathetic!). I have a sliced FWG5 and I'm using 30% max damage powerups (which run out way too fast!).
Now, are there other techniques I can use to get faster xp? I have a TKM/Doc friend who would be willing to help me if there was some technique which would allow faster xp gain. The obvious problem with the TKM is that he kills things way too fast! Maybe I should ask a weaponsmith to make him up a really poor VK so he can tank for me!
Now, I'm also going to be going up the smuggler tree. Are there any recommendations as to the order of skill gains on the way up? Does it make life easier if I go up to Tech 4 (for fanshot) or DF for low blow first?
Any help would be appreciated.
Goto dathomir and take on rancors. And what your friend needs to do as opposed to launching off all of his tka specials, needs to learn how to "tank". Tanking is not spamming UH3 until what your fighting dies btw.....
Tanking is keep a critters focus on you, and playing as defensively as possible.
For example. I tend to get doctor buffs, a full suit of ubese for my "tanking".
Whentanking I rarely ever use unarmedhit3 or 2 at all. First and foremost you need to intimidate it to lessen it's damage and weaken it's secondary defenses if any. Next blind it, to give it a harder time with hitting you, then stun it so it slows it's attack rate down. And don't forget to CoB. Then just let the TKA autoattack reapplying the various state effects as they wear off and as you the leveling pistoleer try to get the magic number so you get full xp. If you can get a knockdown+warcry in there that works too. Whatever can be done to take less damage while the pistoleer is blasting away.
Unarmedspin attack can be great for tanking too. As you can cause several critters around you to keep they're attention on you and you alone.
I did this and i was dishing out 2500 to 3k in dmg at only pistol tech 2 level
getting around 2 to 3k per per squill kill

When everything is dead, rest or stim up if you need to (doctor would be handy here), and then tap the lair. 3 more Hanadans should pop, and then repeat the above. When you're done with them, rinse and repeat with the 3rd group.
With this route I was able to finish up all of pistoleer and most of smuggler in about a week of 2-3 hour sessions. Afterwards, you can migrate your stats back to what you're happy with for anything else.

Get your pistoleer skills first. Trying to level Smuggler without any Pistoleer is a pain in the sack. Save the DF for last, unless you really, really need Feign Deasth for some reason.
Get novice pistoleer, and novice smuggler. Sink your combat XP into the Stances line in Pistoleer and your pistol XP in the DF line instead of running up the Technique tree in pistoleer (plus you will have ranged & melee mitigation 1). If you want specials, get the Smuggler specials first you will be much better off in the long run. Once you get the DF line switch over to either Grips or Marksmanship ( I personally did Marksman ship), save the Techniques tree for last, as the only special you will want from that tree is fanshot. Once you have finished Pistoleer then concentrate on the Underworld line in Smuggler.
