umm, wait for the combat balance? lol

pistols still suck and have for a while, but everything's going to be changing in a month or so, so at least you don't have to deal with the suckiness for long

sorry that the first guys didn't give the answer you were looking for. I've been a pistoleer since around august, and love it immensely. And, I'm still very very good at PvP.

The very first tree you should go up is the techniques tree, the 3rd tree, which gives you fanshot. This is a great special. It also gives stopping shot at x/x/3/x, which is great damage but slow. The good thing is that the last tree, which works on combat xp, is your speed tree, so you can level that along with the techniques tree, or if you have combat xp stocked up from previous professions, you'll be firing pretty fast right out of the gate.

The next tree I'd go would be the 2nd line, the accuracy line. Having better accuracy is pretty self explanatory.

The very first tree gives good dodge mods, but other than that it's almost worthless to a pistoleer. I forget if healthshot2 is novice pistoleer or in the 1st tree, but it's a good shot.

Your best moves will be healthshot 2 (incredibly does more damage than bodyshot3 and also puts on a bleed), stopping shot, fanshot, and pistolmelee defense 1. Those are basically the only "working" pistoleer specials unless you go up dirty fighting or the BH pistols line.

When I levelled pistols I did it against quenkers on Dantooine. I also did it by killing stormies while farming imp player bases. They changed quenkers, but I haven't fought any in a while, so I'm not sure what was affected.

Hope I helped a bit!

errr...you're good at PVP because you're a Triple Master, Smuggler, TKA, AND Pistoleer.

Let's see how good you are as a Master Pistoleer alone vs a Master Rifleman alone.

If you plan on being Master Pistoleer and BH pistols I would go up BH pistols first because with the speed and accuracy you will be able to grind Master Pistoleer very very fast.

Unless you a mixing master pistols with something else that boosts pistol mods, then don't go for it

With just having master pistoleer and no other mix of pistols, we suck. We are slow ( rifleman have more speed ) we have 3 working specials. We have 1 DOT that well, isn't even worth the drain of mind to use. ( it targets health ) We have no pistols with ap2 or higher. So if you find a npc or something with medium armor, don't bother.

actually, I've beaten plenty of riflemen using only pistols.

The trick here is to understand the accuracy mods. Rifle accuracy isn't very good between 0 and around 25 or 30 meters, but pistoleer's accuracy mods excel at that range.

Alot of people see the damage and speed, and speed mods for the actual skills, but they simply refuse to think about tactics. Yes, a master pistoleer can take on and beat a master rifleman using nothing but pistoleer specials .... I've done it many many times.

Perhaps I haven't been in this profession long enough to understand everyone's gripes, as over the last 30hrs or so if've gotten the 3rd and 4th pistol box in marksman and am now a 1132 pistoleer. I can see some weaknesses but at least I can understand the purpose of each spec shot unlike carbineer. Whats so bad about /pointblanksingle1? I kinda like it just wish that it drained one ham pool consistently and not a random one.

What to hunt? If you're on Corellia do slice hounds. I've never seen so many creatures come out of a lair. They were only giving me 700 - 1k xp but there were so many and they die quick which means quick xp. On Dantooine avoid Quenkers. Once they intimidate you, you do half damage and it just takes longer to kill them. XP per lair is not important; it is XP per unit time. I like doing huurton missions, they've been giving me over 50k xp lair (Some lairs I almost want to say 70k xp). And it doesn't take a long time to "take care" of them.

I am almost done these and am going to start doing the pistoleer thing. Thanks for allo the tips especially about where to hunt and what specials work!. I started last night and in one buff session got novice pistoleer , techniques 1 and half of techniques 2... I am now 0/0/1/2 (had leftover combat xp) and am jsut wondering if anyone has grinded out recently and hunted things beside huurtons and quenckers? ( thats what im currently doing) Thanks again!

For the grind, get a decent composite chetplate, a couple of good guns, a buff and head to dantooine. Doing the Huurton Matron Missions got me from 1112 pistoleer to master in less than a week.

As far as our specials go, the marksmen stuff is great. In pistoleer, only fanshot and pistolmeleedefence1 work the way they're supposed to. I hear stoppingshot is great, but I never use it, 'cuz lastditch is better (yeah, I'm a smuggler, too).

For PvP, the major problem we have is that we have a low DPS and the least-easy-to-get stun weapon. To counteract that, save your sheckles for a GOOD Geo Pistol. And do something to get all your specials to the speed cap. For me, that was mastering Marksman and getting some good armor attachements. Here's a hint there: Ubese shirts are shirts technically, but they use armor attachements. I.e. Beef 'em up. Because they're shirts, you wear 'em under your armor and they don't decay when shot at. The reason why that's good is that armor attachments are easier to find than clothing attachments. Also, in PvP, keep some key foods on you: synthsteak (lowers the damage on you), brandy (mind food) and some others. Like I said, we default at a low dps. That sucks. But we have some powerful specials that don't eat up our ham if we can get to the speed cap. A good Geo's hard to come by. The best ones tend to run in the millions. I just bought a decent one for 1.5. But a good dx2 and a good republic are a lot easier to get. Their only problem is that PvP armor has resists to 'em. However, geo's aren't armor peircing, so that's a problem too.

With master pistoleer, you should do pretty well in PvE against most Mobs. Some of the high-end stuff is still gonna whack you, but that stuff is designed for groups, anyway. In unarmored PvP, we do VERY well. Unfortunately, most PvP is armored... and that's problematic for us. But, supposedly that's gonna change with the combat revamp.
