Howdy, I am new to SWG, been playin for about 2 weeks now. I choose to go Pistoleer and have been grindin slowly but surely towards that goal. It wasn't til early this week that I started readin the forums. Hehehe, ouch, what an eye opener that was Gotta admit all the posts I read about broken specials and this prof bein underpowered gave me some serious second thoughts about pursuing this line any further. In the end I have decided to stay with it. Maybe its a good choice and maybe a bad one, never-the-less at least its my choice to make.

So anyway, here's my question:

I've done some readin here and it seems that alot of you guys like the Geonosion as one of the most powerful blasters we've got to work with. I've done some shopping and I've found a couple at 300+ damage but they are bloody expensive (600 - 700k). Right now i'm just doin PvE while levelling up. Will this Geonosion Sonic spiel be a good weapon for that or does its strengths lie more in the PvP arena? Should I snag one of these babies or just save up for a DE-10. Right now I've got a FWG5, DX2 and a Republic that are all at about 268 damage.

Whadd'ya think??? Thanks in advance for your help.

I find speed is everything,I actually like Health shot 2 spammed and it kills em faster then anyother of our specials(mainly because majority are broken) also modified reb blaster with an area shot is effective

Thanks for the reply Mitsew Ya i use HS2 alot. And even though i have read that the stopping shot special is broken, and very well could be for all i know, i have found that it doubles my damage when i am shootin at lairs at the end of missions. I am mostly takin Mokk and Janta missions on Dantooine. I need the cash...

So what do u think about the Geonosion Sonic Blaster, is it a good weapon for PvE or just for PvP???

The geonosian pistol is used primarily for pvp but can come in handy sometimes when a creature is vulnerable to stun and high resists to our other types of weapons. The best weapon it seems to have is a nice dx2 because of the acid damage. Pistoleer is nice though because it has a number of different types of damages that we can use and its good to have every single type fo these available. The first tree to get is the techniques tree because you will have fan shot that gives you an area attack that is very nice plus you get some defences.

Fan shot is probably the best attack to use along with health shot 2and a knockdown. I picked up the smuggler dirty fightingline for its specials that are nice. Fan shot is great but you have to be careful when attacking higher level stuff that you wont drag(accidently attack somthing you didnt mean to attack) really tough stuff over that will kill you.

Pistoleer is a lot of fun and we are not totally helpless.. no you will not outdamage a TKM except on rare occations that you run into something that has 100% kinetic resists.

Thanx for the info guys. Hehehe, looks like i guessed right on the tree to climb first. Almost to that lovely fanshot special

Hmmmm, well, based on your info I suppose I'd be best served to hold on to my credits til I come across a 300+ DX2. From other threads i've read I gather that I shouldn't worry about speed cuz i'll be capped out when I master. Is that correct???

Hey, Hi, Ho, and welcome aboard.

About the geo blaster, yes, it is mainly for pvp purposes. Stun is still a weak point of armour, and for the price most of the good ones go for, it's a waste to use it for grinding. Having said that, if you can get to the geo caves, or better yet, ask around on the trade forums, or in-game to your friends, guild or whoever, geo pistols also drop as loot. The stats on them are usually much worse than a crafted one, but the price is usually right as well. A lot of mobs are weak vs. stun and/or acid. If you can get even a decent to slightly sub-par geo that was a loot drop, then it can come in very handy while grinding.

I also notice you mentioned saving up for the DE-10. That's maybe not a great idea. While it is the best damage pistol out there, with max. damage that can be up to 5-6 hundred, it has three major drawbacks.

1. Price. Roughly two million, whether you buy it outright or buy the components and have it assembled, is steep for a weapon. I mean, with buffs and some good armour, you can grind out maybe amillion a day depending on how quickly you can take missions and how long you're willing to play in a day, but to drop all that money in one shot is a little tough.

2. Energy damage. Comp. armour suits usually have 70% base, and that usually includes energy. A slice can bring that up to 80% if you're lucky. (To have it that is, not to fight against it). If it's not part of the "base" stats, it can be 80% or higher right off the bat. And some suits can get into the 90's for protection. Meaning that yes, the max. damage is high, but someone with that armour can take it. Especially since most peolple buff to pvp, and most pistol specials will usually attack health. And I mention pvp because, like the geo blaster, it's a waste to spend 2 million on a weapon for pve, when we have other pistols that deal the same damage type.

3. Speed. The DE-10 is slow, and unless you take up BH pistols, your specials won't fire at the cap. This can be an issue unless you really know what you're doing, and even then it's not a great thing.

Having said all that, I must say that I myself DO have one

Cool man thanks thats good info. Aaaarrrgghhhh, now i find myself doubting the DE-10, no wait, I'm not, no wait, I am... LOL

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, seems the answer is to make a butt-load of cash and buy everything. How do ya do that.

OK, so you aside from everything else you said, one thing rings clear as day. I WON'T BE SPEED CAPPED AFTER MP!!!

So I planned on following the Template that has been touted as the best here anyway. MP /BH Pistols /Smugglers DF

But thats gonna take a while isnt it???

Accckkkk, thinking to much, im confusing myself, just gonna log on and kill stuff for awhile...

Thanks to everyone for their advice and input

While grinding up just use a regular run of the mill dx2... I dont know the status of your servers weapons but you should be able to get a dx2 for around 10k from a resonable weaponsmith and then just use that to grind your way up. My dx2 pistols are all just over 200 max damage and they do just fine.. when you get master or if you get rich enough then ya you could buy a nice krayted dx2 but for just grinding just buy a run of the mill and get it sliced... you want to make sure you have all the different types of damage that a pistoleer can deal to be effective just incase acid isnt the best.

Drop pistoller.

That's my advice

I'm a master pistoller \ smuggler.

And I can tell you from first hand experience

That sony sucks huge balls.

HUGE NASTY BALLS.

Don't bother.

Go with a "good" prof... Don't make the same mistake I did and unknowingly take two extreamly underpowered, and broken classes brought to you by SOE.inc

and SOE doesn't stand for "Sony Online Entertament"

The "S" stands for something different.

You fill in the blank.

Getting BH pistols/ smuggler DF won't take too long once you master pistoleer, as you should be able to kill rancors fairly easily with a DX2 (buffed and armored of course). I would recommend keeping the guns you have now, maybe getting a scatter instead of a DX2 after you get novice BH. Get the geonosian pistol once you have saved up enough money, and only if you plan to PvP.
