Hi!
Im currently 100% melee fighter, at the start of game i went master marksman some bh and some pistols, but i soon went for the melee professions, i can solo pretty much anything in PVE right now, but ive done everything, been everywhere and i think im in a need for a change.
I love my current template, right now i am
Master Brawler
Master Swordsman
Teras Kasi Master
Some fencer & some medic.
Im think i really want to do more pvp to keep the gaming alive, i can do sick damage with a good power hammer but still, this aint a good pvp template.
So im thinking of pistols, with some smuggler the slicing tree to be able to make a few bucks and to slice my own weapons, and also the dirty fighting tree.
I take it BH pistols is kinda necessary to be a "great" pistoleer.
I would love to keep my master swordsman for pve, but i will consider removing melee totaly, not sure.
Id love some notes from pistoleers, why and why not bla bla bla...

Pistoleer is not good for PvP.
No ranged class is good for PvP except rifleman.

My template is Master Pistols, Bounty Pistols IV,Dirty Fighting IVand Novice Commando.
I would agree with the above comment to a certain extent, in group PVP then Pistols is not very good, as chances are you will get dizzied and knocked down fairly quickly - you can only kite for so long! In solo PVP it can be a lot of fun though, especially against another ranged player (I have had a few fun fights against Bounty Hunters)- and if you can kite around you can be a good match for a lot of the melee class's - especially if you down some thakitilo before.
I found that just havingBH pistols and Pistoleer leaves your template somewhat lacking - now I have also got Smuggler PistolsIhave a knock down shot, a delay shot, the mighty Last Ditch shotand as you need unarmed IV you can also use intimidate from the Brawler tree (this works if you are holding a pistol).......that plus eye shot, torso shot and Health shot 1\2 and fan shot pretty much covers everything I use in PVE and PVP.
I have a lot of fun with my template - virtually anything that doesn't have heavy armour you can take on in PVE (some exceptions). Its a lot of fun to agro about 10 mobs then run backwards and forwards with Fan Shot and watch them all drop at the same time. When I solo PVP I usally do pretty well - a good Geo pistol against someone with no stun armour is very funny.
My template gives me Acid, Stun, Heat, Kinetic, Blast and Energy damage -I can stun, blind, intimidate, bleed, burn, delay and knockdownand although you can't solo any of the high end mobs or be overly useful in group PVP you will have a lot of fun.
and after all.... thats what the games all about

PvP for a pistoleer seems to be all about expensive weaponry. If you're looking at going ranged and want to be able to compete without a heavy investment you'll want to look into rifles. It's the only "out of the box" ranged proffession that has a chance in pvp.
If you want to spend a bit of time, credits, blood sweat and tears it's possible to be good with pistols. You'll need to find some good mind dot weaponryin order to make the damage that counts, you'll want to probably get the speed and accuracy (as well aseye shot andtorso shot) from BH and pick up some additional dodge and state defenses from fencer or another melee prof. You can go for the damage output and KD from smuggler instead of the defenses but it's not my preference.
It's not a bad proffesion but it does require a considerable investment to make it really work.

Okay, I'll retract that-
Pistoleer can be pretty good for casual PvP. However, the large-scale PvP involving group fights are dominated by melee professions now because buffs and armor make their longevity great enough that it's impossible to do much in the way of meaningful damage as they close to range.

my template is master tka (good for PVP and PVE) master pistoleer(great defenses, and good for pve) and Smuggler (some nice pistol specials and nice skills to make a few creds). i find this very effective as i can deal good damage, have various damge types, both melee and ranged, plenty of good defenses from pistoleer and i have a cool job profession smuggler. also this profession is very good for taking out jedi, grab a geo blaster, and use you smuggler low blow, last ditch, and your pistol skills and you can take down a jedi with the proper equipment. i have done many different jobs but i like this the best because its moderate for PVP, great for PVE and has a bit of crafting and player interaction trough slicing in it too!
hope that helps!

There is quite a bit of discussion about PvP on the Brawler forum and it has been pretty much agreed on at this point thata Rifleman + some other skills can take down a TKM. The thing with pistols is you just need a high level pistol. You wouldn't think about doing serious PvP with a low level TKA or Fencer, same is with any ranged combat prof.

Big Lie!
I've been pwned bya pistoleer template while a rifleman with a T-21 maxe damage over 550 fighting an unarmored foe. He dodged all but two of my shots, and I suck at PvP, but thats not the point.
Sure they don't use pistoleer specials, but they use pistoleer accuracy/speed mods so as far as I'm concerned having pistoleer in your template is good for your PvP template, ya just need the right weapons.

The truth is that I have a 550 max damage geo, 500 max DX-2, and 500 max Republic Blaster. I have uber stun comp with 70-90 base (depends on the piece). I eat food, and had the template BH 0030, M. Pistoleer, Fencer 0440 for defenses. I have tried BH 0040, Pistoleer 2442, Fencer 0440. I have been a triple master (M. Smuggler, M. Pistols, M. TKA). I own +20 in pistol accuracy tapes, and a number in dodge, ranged defense, and pistol accuracy while standing and moving.
Even with all of this junk, you will not be any better than a rifleman who buys a good rifle from the bazaar for 6,000 credits.
I've spent and have had friends spend 10's of millions on my gear. Pistoleer is extremely gimped in PvP. Do not pick up pistoleer if you plan to PvP. Rifleman is everything pistoleer should be (minus the small guns). Rifleman even really owns in PvE also.
Pick up rifleman, it is what I'm doing now... regretably

What about a real hybrid prof...like keeping Master Swords, going with 4/0/0/0 Fencer, 0/0/4/0 Pistoleer, 4/0/4/0 TKA...you know...trying to pull all the stacked stat defenses from each prof?
I'm sure things cap off somwhere....but I don't know the speed, and defense caps.
