I belive master rifles, doc would make you more effective,
but you might wanna consider which you would have more fun with also.
Im planning pistols for my coming alt character also.
tho it will be m.pistols, bh-pistols (bh 3040 ), and smuggler 0040.
Not the best template in the world for anything but still i just wanna have fun

Currently im master pistoleer (no bh stuff or smuggler stuff) and am going for master doc (currently 4440 - dreading xxx4 grind!!!).
I'd say this much - im enjoying it!! Its a good laugh being able to go hunting with my sexy DE-10 and a pack full of stims and state-effect stuff. Handy for all round fighting. Sure, you wont be the most "uber leet winnarr!!!1" player, but so what? If you're looking for a FOTM template, dont go Pistoleer + Doc - if you're looking for something that's quite good fun, allows you to get into the action and suchlike, then take it.
Personally im keeping pistoleer for a while - i kinda fell in love with the DE-10 and have no plans to give it up anytime soon!!
Just do what you're interested in. If you dont like it you can always drop it, remember!

I'm a master pistoleer & doc, and I enjoy it. I used to be a rifleman, but I'm usually the only doc in the group I go out with. I went to pistols for the defense bonus it has over rifles. Yeah, pistols just don't hit as hard as a rifle, but when your trying to keep a group alive (let alone my myself) they hit hard enough for me. I had a friend say once "you never have to worry about your HAM with Feo around. One hit with those stim D's, and your set."

I used to be a M. Pistoleer and M. Combat Medic. Pistols and medic go well together in a suport role. You can hunt most things solo and unbuffed. In a group the pistol defences help keep a dedicated healer alive. I dropped CM to pick up BH and do some serious killing till the CURB and I miss my medic skills every time I do high end PvE.

I used to be a Pistoleer/Doc combo, but gave it up in favor of a TKA/Doc combo. I found my survivability in both PvE and PvP to be much better with this combo.
However, my love for Pistoleer and the wide variety of weapons/damage types it offers made me pick it with my alt who is a Pistoleer/Smuggler/Commando 0030 combo. I will eventually switch to the ultimate "pistols" variant of Master Pistoleer/BH 0040/Smuggler 0040/Novice Commando, but want to hear more about the CURB first.

My two favourite professions but I,ve never played them on the same server since I can't mix it with any smuggler or BH.
If you're not going to pvp solo a lot, or high end pve content I'd say go for it. The defensive bonuses are strong, plenty of damage types and it feels Starwarsy to carry a pistol.

Master Pistoleer, and I've been working on master doctor for a few monthsnow, he he.
It's up to what you want. I personally enjoy doctor and pistoleer, but if you want the uber FotM, then rifle is probably a good idea.

Jordan, I just got Master Doctor today (after a year and a half just toying with it and a month of hard grinding) and I wish you the best. You are going to enjoy it, especially when you can start dishing out master buffs.

I've been a Doctoleer (tm) for a while and I like it. It is, IMO, THE support toon. If you want to solo stuff you may not like it, but if you actually use a group to hunt everyone will love to have you along.
You don't suck up all the xp like a swordsman, you don't steal aggro from your tanks by geting too close, and you take a minimal penalty for fighting while moving, and a doc in group combat should ALWAYS be moving. You won't be able to solo high end PvE, you won't be able to kill stackers, but if you know your role you will turn the tide of battle.

if you plan on pvping just be prepared to die a lot and spend a lot of time on buffing yourself
if you plan on doing mostly pve, go for it, it can be very very fun

Not realy a good combo. Pistoleer is not a good profession by itself and need supporting skills to be good.
