Thread: Pistols + Master Doc, can it keep me from dying?

Hi all, I am almost a master doctor, and would like a good ranged profession to go with it. This would mostly be for pve, but would like to be able to pvp lower level idiots who challenge people out of sheer stupidity. I like pistols, but wonder if they do enough damage. Do rifles or carbon weapons do more damage? Is the ranged support skills in marksmanworth it? I know rifles have mind specials which is good for pvp, but most of the pistols/carbons/rifles generic attacks either hit action/health more frequently (at least in my case), so having a special to hit those pools would be more beneficial (more so for pve). I know this thread is all over the place, but I would appreciate some good input, thanks.

Go with rifleman. Better damage output and better pool targeting. Oh, yea, and rifleman can put states on a target. Want to dizzy someone and put them on the ground? Use the rifleman dizzy shot(s) and then follow up with Suppression Fire from Marksman. It is just as effective, if not more, than a dizzy/kd.

Who cares about the state defenses from pistols when you can instantly heal the dizzy state, even while dizzy/kd. Eat some Thatkillo to prevent kd, and you should do just fine in PvP.

Also, from what I hear, rifleman is reallllly nice in PvE too.

If you get a decent 300+ GSB, you'll carve holes in anyone not wearing stun armor. DE-10s do decent damage against most people that aren't TKAs or have craploads of mitigation, and you get a large chunk of defences to help you stay up and healing people. Just don't expect to win any duels.

With healthy buffs and stimE's I think he'll be ok.

Problem with doc/rifleman is that you must have suppression to knock them downafter the dizzy. Most doc/combat profs dont generally use range4 and put their 18 spare points into novice scout/expl1 or novice brawler so they can use intimidate or warcry.

I think he'll be ok with pistols for what he needs it for, he'll even have some moderate defences for a doc too. As a doc/rifleman my defences suck(output is awesome and range defences are good)but pistoleer gets bleeds, a KD, nice dodge mods and a nice range of damage types. Just spend spend spend on speed and accuracy tapes if you want to compete at a higher level

From what he wants to do I think pistols will be good, but that's just me

Thanks all for your input. I go back and forth every day about what to be, but have been using pistols until I make a decision. Mebbe the upcoming combat upgrade will balance out the ranged classes and we'll be right in the mix (especially with dual wield).

Btw I am a human doc, saw that question asked earlier.

I am Master Pistoleer/Master Doctor and I find the combination to be very effective PvE. You can tank just about anything and don't need a large group when hunting, either solo or with a couple of friends.

Personally, I enjoy the Doctor skills away from combat, but there is no doubt the ability to buff yourself (and your group) before going into combat is a real advantage.

yes unless its your mind pool being targeted then it wont matter how much you can heal yourself.

i haver a toon that is md/cm/rifle tree of marksman now if i am hunting by myself this will keep me alive but if i am interested in nkeeping others alive i am fkd as the rifle needs the distance so the pistols would have been a better bet

Well, you do have Ranged and Area Stims. What's the range on those?
