Well they are finally improving the "cat" like mob's (i.e. jax) movement rate. This should have happened a while ago but at least they have finally taken care of it. Based on this fix I figured it would be nice to start a thread dedicated to solo techniques that are commonly used to fight any type of creature. Please share with everyone your methods/techniques.. if its dependant on a mob type then list the mob as well. If you consider it an exploit then I guess keep it to yourself. (:

Also a seperate question I have is how good is pistol melee defense 1 (i.e. pistol whip)? I just recently received this skill but as of yet I have had no time to try it out. Thanks!

Pistol whip is indispensible. Anything that doesn't aggro or swarm can be soloed easily (snorbals and nyms on lok come to mind). Just autofollow them, pistol whip couple times, health shot, pistol whip every 5 seconds or so until dead. It helps to use a scout blaster since the ham costs are so low and it'll still do about 4-500 a pop.

This should answer both of your questions.

The best solo tactic is to make a macro like this:

/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;
/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;/pistolmeleedefense1;

And run up to any mob and hit your hotkey.

Actually pistol whip is slow in the killing part.

Do the following:

Health shot 2 ( If you want to exploit you can do both 1 and 2 as they both bleed atm this is slated to be fixed I found this out by accident and have removed 1 from my quick bar )

Stopping shot as the mob closes ( bleed really pisses them off )

Then if you use a scout your fast enough to do pistolwhip;stoppingshot;pistolwhip;stopshot. This will bring down your action some but drops the mob faster.

As it is now tho I don't wear armor at all and I can kill anything that doesn't one shot me. And my ham bars don't move if I only spam pistolwhip.

Biggest issue I have is if I get two or three mobs. So I took the ch route and sick my pets on any adds I get till I get done whipping the first one. Recommend high armor low damage pets if you go this route. So when you get done with the first one you can switch to one of the next targets and not lose as much pistol xp to your pets. Or and there are some get pets that damage a diffrent ham then health. Then you can pull your pet off the mob all togeather and get full pistol xp.

Against a single mob I do the following:

1) Aim

2) Healthshot 2, 1 if its a really nasty mob

3) Highest Bodyshot

4) Stopping shot

5) Bodyshot2

6) Repeat 4 and 5 until they get to close range

7) Pistol Whip

8) Highest point blank single

Then I back off and repeat. Occassionally, depending on the mob and its effectiveness, I'll swap stopping shot with warning shot.

For large swarms of mobs I health shot each one first, then focus on a single individual until it drops while the others bleed down.

Also, I sometimes mix in doubletap instead of bodyshot 2 depending on the size of the other pools or, while not solo related, when grouped with other combatants who don't focus solely on health.

Oh and I forgot to mention, as a Ranger as well, against individual mobs I always start combat by first tossing a glow-wire trap which drops down a creatures defense against both melee and ranged attacks...it really helps big time.
