Thread: Is it just me or are sharpshooters just wimps?

Over the past few days I've been running into sharpshooters who are complete wimps. The most common scenario is they will talk trash in groups then when you challenge one to a duel they decline since I'm a Novice Gunslinger. If your going to talk trash shouldn't you back it up, every other profession I run into will gladly accept duels but sharpshooters just run for cover.

Also, with the whole raid situation involving imps vs rebels I get really fed up with sharpshooters who camp out by reb/imp terminals and just pick off people with mind shot from 70 meters away and by the time you notice whats going on they have already killed you. Devs should fix that or correct mind shot so it doesnt do 2000 mind wound (which I got hit with).

Yeah the mind shot is a pain but they dont like it when we run up and slap them like a pimp either.

I was going to go for Rifleman, but decided on Pistoleer because of it's somewhat uberness to Rifleman. I don't know why you generalize that all sharpshooters are wimps. I will accept a duel anytime if I feel like fighting with my rifle. Its hard for a sharpshooter to fight an aspiring pistoleer though seeing as how most good rifles have 5+ second delay while a good pistol will yeild anywhere from 1.2(lowest I have seen)-3.0. All a pistolwielding fighter has to do is run up close enough to the rifleman. Rifles suck up close. Thats why I switched to pistoleer. Other then having the whole mind thing, riflemen (sharpshooters too) suck. They need at least 1 thing to keep them in the game.

I was also going for rifleman, and switched to pistoleer. Got tired of always loosing in PVP because people will just run right up on top of you. Rifles suck up close, they suck worse when you're moving, and they make you take more damage... The only way to use a rifle effectively is to be prone, at long range, take cover, and kill your target before they can close with you. Once they closewith you it's all over, you've lost. The main problem with rifles in this game is the range is way too short, 60-70m? That's a joke. I can easily hit targets at 1000m with my rifle in real life.

When you're using a rifle in this game you need surprise to be effective. That's something you aren't going to get in a duel. Of course they're going to decline your challenges, you're asking them to fight you on your terms. Even worse than that, it's a situation which puts them at ahuge disadvantage. That's two strikes against them already...

All the posts in this thread are good and point to the fact that a good "combat-eer" will wield both a rifle and a pistol. (or carbine, or sword, or whatever). No need to pigeonhole yourself. This isn't eq where

Anyways, as I was saying... this isn't EQ where you're either a wizard or a fighter.
