Thread: Questions for BH/DF/Pistoleer/Commando Templates

Ok so I'm curious about the efficicacy of the BH -0040, Smuggler 0040, Novice Commando, Master Pistoleer template I've heard so much about.


1) How well does this work without any medical ability? I've never taken a combat template without at least novice med. Is this feasible?


2) How well does having blast and all these specials work out for higher end PvE mobs like Geo caves, Nightsisters, etc.?

Ok i personally dont like this template becuase of the no melee damage mitigation defense. The GOOD parts are you get intimidate1 so that can really help. But no melee mit. allows the enemy to hit you ALOT harder.
Also, no medic means that you are pretty much required to go to the geo lab with a group or at least someone with ok medic skills. You are VERY powerful with a pistol though and adding blast damage to your already nice range of pistol damage types is cool for hunting NS. just keep them intimidated as much as possible. I would recommend buying one of those form fitting undershirts that has +14 or better intimidate. just so it lands more often hehe. No medic is a big downer with this prof against the geonosians with their geo pistols. Good thing about being able to do good melee damage is that i can use TKM to take down those geos and force them to use melee skills against me.

PVP: Pvp this is a great template. You get to intimidate, burn a target, use THREE BLEEDS (four if you count a modified republic blaster) attack health OR mind specifically AND get a good ranged KD. Very efficient for destroying opponents A good tactic with this template against someone that has 4k mind (since you know he has 4k willpower ) is to burn and bleed him with all your attacks and then start on his mind. Still gotta watch out for any GOOD melee fighter out there.

Overall, a good template. I used this template when you could only have bh pistols and most of pistoleer and i LOVED it. I was powerful and fast and did good damage. (this was BEFORE the geo stun pistol too hehe ) now with the ability of having intimidate as well its MUCH better hehe. My suggestion? to make it even BETTER? instead of the Unarmed tree so you can get nov commando, smuggler shots and a blaster pistol, take fencer route instead. You can go fencer 3400 (if my math is right) and have an extra +50 to defense vs kd and defense vs posture change not to mention an extra +39 for melee AND ranged defense. Also you will cap out on dodge skills which means you will get hit MUCH less often hehe. (or novice medic with just 2000 fencer for capped dodge and an extra 27 ranged and melee defense hehe. )

Always remember, the best offense is a good defense its not all about the number of different attacks you can do. its about how hard and how often you get hit.

Do the defense mods stack still or will they stop stacking with the combat balance in the near future? I was thinking about doing the fencer thing as well but someone posted that stacking will no longer happen. So what is the truth?

you will max out at 120 on all defense stats ( i think its either 120 or 125) i have heard rumors that it doesnt work and defense stacking is still possible but i dont think its true.

I picked up this the first day i could and i really like it with only one exception, i dont really see a need for the Launcher pistol. If there was a way that i could pick up novice medic without sacrificing anything else, i would do it in a heartbeat. But as it stands, if im in trouble in PvP, i just get my backside firmly planted in the ground with a FD, and wait for the grief. I never understood why i get flamed for FDing, yet people grab novice medic and heal themselves and thats total acceptable.

Lastly, i may be wrong but with this template you do get melee mitigation 1, its in the smuggling tree.

Well, the good thing about the pistol template is the fact that it gives you a lot of damage types to choose from. We can even do kinetic damage. That is what I enjoy most about the template. That and the fact people ignore you on base raids, then realize that their turrets ham has been halfed in a matter of half a minute, is a good feeling my friend.

I am this combo.......and i love it, all flash, no defence.......maybe not practical but hella fun.


i mostly pvp and with a 500 max geo...bh speed (cap any weopan) and last ditch , i dont worry about melee migration...im a ranged guy..i got legs and i use em, melee never catches me....only people i lose to is other pistoleers or CM rifleman (only if they got stun armour) ....eye shot if they havent suped up mind is also handy.

oh and if u like raids...the comando is niiice, i got 500 max launcher and turrets get beat like a red headed step child, (at-st's too ..if only i wasnt imp)
