From the Test Center patch notes:

Weapons

  • Altered weapons certifications to allow certain weapons to be equipped cross profession.

Has anyone downloaded the new patch yet? Do we get to use all the pistols now!?

Currently, yes, if you have level 54 then you can use any weapon. That means a pistoleer can swing a power hammer. However on the commando forums Helios has said that they will go in and add some profession/skill box requirements, and even race requirements(just bowcaster atm). It was also said that they do not plan to share master level boxes. This means, unless SL, CM, and Smugglers lose the certs at master, we will not be getting Intimidators, Alliance Disruptors, or Renegades. So basically, we still just have to wait and see.

In the doorway of Glory he found Death who put his hand in hers and said, "Now, come home now."
"Soon," he said.

but you WILL be able to have loot dropped weapons at master level, ie: Proton carbine, etc...

Wow...this seems like a pretty..uh,well...stupid system. I wonder what they were thinking? I personally have been happy with the direction of the CU (not so much the group level thing though) but this seems just wierd. Why even have profession? Just pick the one with the most "General Ranged XXX" and use whatever you want.

they had to do the weapon certs like that because of the way the level system works now. When you work on your second profession, you can't kill what you are "supposed" to kill because you're using newbie weapons against pretty tough MOBs. So this way, you can use a tougher weapon against the pretty tough MOB.

I am running around with a Launcher Pistol and a Scatter Pistol as Novice Pistoleer.

Im happy.

Besides that, I also have an annoying sig that looks like part of the post.

That's a very good point. But I really think they should just go back to the old level system (the invisible one that exists on live right now) and that would fix this problem. What's wrong with people trying to take on tougher mobs for a challenge? Right now killing something is either easy or impossible, no middle ground.

I completely agree with you. The level system is just dumbing down the PvEgame even more than it already is, especially with the damage modifiers.

Actually if the loot drop is certed for a Master profession, you will not be able to have it! Only if you Master that particular profession.
