Thread: Experience Distribution Issue

I'm sure someone else has already posted about this.

I'm a little concerned about the distribution of experience with the new system. Pre-CU XP was dealt out by total damage done, which worked okay because every master profession just used his/her highest power hit to fight with. Boring, but it got the XP out (assuming you weren't fighting anything huge like Krayts, which would bias the DoT to one player).

However, post-cu combat system (which I, for one, kind of enjoy) allows us to use special moves and debuffs to weaken opponents and expand the variety of functions in a group (a la EQ/WoW).BUT, the experience system doesNOT reflect this role in a group. Since XP is still dealt by % damage done (isn't it?), I'm worried that if I concentrate on "crowd control" and use my debuffs, roots, and mezzes (as the profession seems to be intended to do), I won't get any experience because of their low damage. Trying to squeeze in some damage shots when dropping mobs can be tough if your also working your debuffs, and doesn't seem to be an effective use of the pistoleer anyways.

Has anyone had a problem with post-CU experience distribution for pistoleers and other "crowd-control" or debuffing classes? My XP is good when fighting with a small group and placing mainly damage shots, but that just doesn't seem like what I'm meant to be doing.

Perhaps since SOE has made this game more like WoW and EQ, they should consider making the experience system work the same way, so that every combat profession represented in the group will get an equal amount of experience? Thoughts?

You get full xp for registering a single hit on a mob when grouped.

To the OP: Have you tested your concerns at all in game or is this pure theorycraft?

The original poster has clearly not tested this in game, or just has no idea. As BadgerSmaker said, you get full XP so long as you actually hit the target and your group then goes on to kill it.

This makes Pistoleer an excellent grouping skill, as you can rapidly cycle targets hitting things with stopping shots, disarms, fanshots and whatever other effects you like (BH specials are useful), making things easier to control and ultimately kill. And because you're hitting darn near everything your group fights, the XP floods in.

Haven't tested what happens when another group/player damages the opponent your group is facing down. I suspect either everyone gets XP, the XP is split or it all goes one way or the other. Am very much hoping for the first but suspect the second.

(Total XP earned by a player is also effectively reduced if you do any healing during combat - you get Medic XP instead, but lose some of your Combat XP. Great trade off for a Medic/Doctor/CM, not so good for part-timers.)

I Mastered Pistoleer with the respec, and also took the first tier of Carbineer. In the last three hunting sessions (altogether approx. 3 hours of hunting) I have completed three tiers, and have two fourth tier boxes full. And that's from using mostly Pistoleer specials and filling the CC role.

And not only is exp gained increased significantly, but earning credits has never been easier. The Devs have made it so that everyone present when someone's mission is completed receives the reward for the mission's completion -- the full amount, not a divied out portion.

you get full XP for hitting a critter once and then letting the column of Stormtroopers sitting on your lair take it out. I get to my first mission lair, and it literally had spawned in the middle of a column of STs. I'm neutral in the GCW, but the Imp NPCs would help me out anyways. As long as I hit the critter once, I got full XP and harvesting rights on it. Actually, was kinda nice not having to work for the kills at all.
