Thread: Is intimidate shot worth it?

Hi,I've been testing intimidate shot during duels and it seems that it's not as effective as before. It does'nt seem to negate much dmg to me. Is it worth dropping intimidate for another +15 general ranged accuracy, +15 melee def and +20 ranged def (for another template) ?

i use it alot, usually follows my warning shot, and once pet specials are fixed i can have my pets use intimidate aswell, but i do find that when i don't land the intimidate shot i do notice a difference in the beating i take.

What's your template now, and what template are you looking to go to?

+15 general accuracy is attractive, but if your gen acc + weap acc is already pretty high, then you won't see much of a difference.

In duels and PvP it seems not that effective. It is something percentual related to the damage which hurts you. Not the absorbed. So there is no big increase. But think about the last ditch from a Smuggler. It caps away alot more damage since this move is rediculous. I dueled a MP/MS and he used last ditch right short before he was down. I got 2513 damage of a 245 bdps Rebblaster. He wasn't intimidated tho. I am eager to know how the damage comes out when intimidated. I'll try it tomorrow.

In PvE it makes a big difference. Get 125 damage from a NPC andmuch lesswhen the NPC isintimidated. Although...it gets resisted very, very often.

im a MBH/MP, and in pvp with a jedi, intimidate shot is a waste of time when you could be laying some damage on em. The chances of laying the intimidate state is so low that i dont have it in my toolbar anymore. If the devs changed it were it had a high chance of working then i would use it. Every second counts in pvp, i dont like wasted shots. Disarming shot is great if you want to cut down the damage done to you, lasts 5 seconds, but you can use it over again. Has low chance of succeeding but i find it more effective than intimidate shot. Better to not get hit all all than just to get hit with a 20 percent damage reduction.

20% damage reduction makes it only worth using in certain cases. Remember that intimidate used to cut damage by 50% so it was something you made sure to use all the time. I can see why they got away from 50%--since it's quite frankly overpowered--but 20% is underpowered. I think 33-35% damage reduction would be great. It would make the attack quite useful to those who have it, but it wouldn't become a must-have skill like it was in N Brawler.

I too have been debating the usefulness of Intimidate Shot. I do use it as part of my standard opening volley with most mobs in PvE, but it doesn't stick a lot of the time, and I'm wondering what the trade-off is between getting the occasional damage reduction, versus being able to fire off an extra damage special in its place.

Does anybody know if an intimidation SEA does anything to Intimidate Shot's effectiveness? I have a medallion with +3 Intimidation (negligible, I know), but I don't see any mods on my character that it could be applied to. I didn't use it pre-CU because it supposedly caused an armor hole.

Well, you could wear a +16 intim/warcry bandolier when you use it and you'll definitely notice if there is a difference. I used to hunt krayts with my rifleman who had no more of a defensive build than 90% armor and intimidate1 from novice brawler. When I war the bandolier, I swear to you that I landed intimidation over 50% more often. I believe this is because novice brawler had no +intimidation bonuses at all, so +16 was a huge boost.

Well, pre-CU, there used to be a mod called "Intimidate" for Brawlers in your list of accumulated skills, so adding any clothing or SEA with an Intimidation mod would have boosted it. Ranged professions do not get that mod (nor do Brawlers anymore, as far as I can see), so I can't see that there is anything to apply an Intimidation mod to. You'd have to see some number increase in in your control-S window in order for it to be doing anything.

As far as I can tell by looking at the skills windows, that mod has gone away with the CU, and it is entirely dependent on the Intimidate Shot special now (no matter what other skill syou might have), but I could be wrong. It looks to me like anybody who has the Intimidate Shot special has the same chance of landing an Intimidate (and for the same amount of intimidation) as anybody else.
