Thread: Warning Shot Broken?

I had thought that Warning Shot was a debuff special that lowers your targets defense a bit, allowing you to do more damage per shot for the duraction of the debuff.

I did some testing on Kashyyyk today and I saw absolutely no difference in damage per shot when a target was normal and was debuffed with Warning Shot.

Am I misunderstanding the special? What is the point?

There's yet one more pistoleer special that I won't be using anymore then. Judging from the description of that special, perhaps that rather than (or in addition to?) lowering your target's defenses against damage, it simply makes it more likely for the next attack to stick. Now we just need to test and see if that actually happens.

Our list of useful specials is getting smaller by the hour... It's still fun to be a Pistoleer though--as long as Stopping Shot keeps working!

I believe it may be a bug in the defense code. WhenI was doing my defense tests vs the Bols the other day, I found out that when I learned a new skill to increase my defense, the combat calculations would not take the new defense into account until I unequipped my pistol and re-equipped it. At first, I thought increasing defense had no effect at all, until my friend suggested I fight unarmed to see if a much lower defense made a difference. Of course, it did, and when I re-equipped the pistol, the new defense mod finally kicked in.

So it is possible that you ARE debuffing the target by 80, but the combat calculation isn't using the debuffed value, it's using the previous value.

If I can, I'll get a friend to help me test it out, since this is something that PvP will be needed for.

Warning Shot needs to be debuff by a higher amount really, 100+ at least as you can get chef buffs that give more ranged bonus than this debuff.

ranged shot worked in PvP. friend reported that it didn't affect the value in the character sheet, but hitting with a basic ranged shots sandwiched around a warning shot showed the shot after the warning shot hit for more damage than the shot before the warning shot.

So, apparently, this move is working in PvP but NOT working in PvE. At least I have not noticed it working in PvE.

I think the debuff should be more potent. Instead of 80 points, maybe it should be a 33% debuff of the person's defense. So it would be 80 points on a 240 defense, and 100 points on a 300 defense.
