Does Melee or Ranged Mitigation stack? IE if you have carbineer and pistoleer mitigation, do they stack. Also for PvP, is it better to get defense vs knockdown, dizzy, etc or + to ranged / melee defense?

You can't get any higher then mitigation 3 I believe, and supposedly they reduce the damage taken but honestly I haven't seen much of a difference.
As for your second question I would have to say both really, you sure don't want to get hit much which is where the ranged/melee defenses come in, and when you do get hit you sure don't want any state changes so thats where the other defenses come in. You really do need both to be succesful in PvP.
