Thread: Pistoleer in regards to armor.

I am Master Pistoleer, with Pistols 4 in BH and Pistols 4 in Smuggler. I have a question in regards to armor.. I run a full set of 80% kin comp armor (every piece), and I am wondering if anyone knows if this is advantageous or not. I'm curious to see if it's best off keeping it how it is.. or just having chestplate/helmet/pants armor equipped. Anyone have any feedback that they'd like to share? Or if there are certain situations in which you should have all armor, some armor, or no armor?

And... my typical form of "attack" in reference to hunting (depends on what I'm hunting though) is standing at a lair and using PBArea1.. since PBArea2 and Multi Target Shot are broken.

Thanks!

And then furthermore.. as a Master Pistoleer with some BH and Smuggler, switching back and forth between acid/heat/energy/stun pistols.. what is the best thing for me to hunt? I currently hunt either Thunes or Huurton Stalkers on Dantooine for my experience.. range 4.5-5.5k a pop, 60-70k a lair.. is there anything else that's better out there? Something with no resists to at least one or two of those types of damage.

Went to modify this topic some to include the hunting factor, but apparently I can't edit.

I have no advice for you in terms of armor (i'm still working that out myself). But I just finished master pistoleer yesterday by taking thune missions and killing any and all hurtons I saw. I also ran across a wild spawn of Slinking Voritor Hunters...5k xp each and easy with an acid pistol and stopping shot or last ditch. I managed to get over 800k xp witha little over half an hour left on my buffs. I currently pve with 76% kin ubese and i dropped medic before i started on that hunt and barely got scratched. Thune missions in a solo group are the way to go though...and make sure to kill any hurtons, quenkers and slinking voritor hunters you come across. Fierce piket protectors are easy too and usually yeild about 5k xp.

the only armors that take the most dam out at the helm/chest/boots/gloves, eveyrthing else is kinda useless, yes they still take dam on the arms and legs, but ur would be better off not having the encum compared to the little dam the arms and legs will take. as far as type of armor, ur fine with 80 kin if ur hunting crits cuz the dam they do is kin, but if ur gonna hunt ns, sts, etc obviously they cause different kind of dam. and to find out what crits are weak to just examine them before u fight them and ditermine which gun is best suited for the situation

thanks for playing

Hate to be an idiot....but could some one clarify what I just read.

I just came back from a long absence. My char is Jak Krynn on Kett and she has Novice pistoleer, but to be honest I have never been able to use her as well in combat as I would like. She is also going for master Artisan and Master medic and that's it.

1. I don't really know what kind of pistol I should use. She has on her a scout blaster that is faster than her fwg5 (? it's been awhile)

2.I don't have a clue what armor she should wear that won't lag her down to terribly bad

Basically if someone would be so kind as to help me out as to what I should do to make her stronger I would be grateful.

She was my main but then I found Elka Tesra who makes way more money on Starsider as a Master ID, Master Ent and hopefully soon to be Master Musician. WHich brings me to a point. I would be willing to pay with Elka's money for any help you can offer as in how to make Jak a warrior instead of a dweeb. (Jak is also poor so I will have to work on buying pieces I need slowly (not asking for any handouts please don't think so))

PLEASE HELP!

1) as a novice pistoleer you should have certifications for the fwg5, republic blaster. These two will be your bread and butter until you get more skilled. The fwg does heat damage. The republic blaster does energy damage but its armor peircing 1. Examine your targets before you attack (pve) and use the type that they are less resistant too.

For your skills progression, I reccomend doing the pistol techniques tree first, this gives you your best special attacks and defenses. Once you have techniques IV, you have fan shot and the exp will be flowing fast now. Fan shot is the best pistoleer special in my opinion. It shoots a high damage shot in a 20 degree area attack. You should practice with it because it can get you into trouble as it will hit anything within this cone, i.e. lairs or other creatures nearby.

Once you have enough combat exp grab pistol special abilities I, that gives you pistol melee defense I, which is a knockdown attack and very very useful. I try to get myself into a position with a few targets, hit hem each with a healthshot to start them bleeding, and as they rush you, start spamming fanshot & running away from them. Once the one you had targeted last dies, be sure to switch targets to the next and keep spamming fanshot. I did all of my exp work mainly on dantooine in solo groups with janta, mokk, pickets, voritor, hurrtons, this technique works good on all the above.

After techniques, I went for pistol tactics to get the dodge skills. I did marksmanship last as I kept master marksman so I had decent marksmanship.

Btw what server do you play on?? I'm on Tarquinas and all my guildmates are doing FS quests so I would love to show you the ropes.

My in game name is Imed Rary, in case you can't read my sig!!

Hope this helps and send me a message if you have any questions!

and also on armor..

i advise ubese armor for hunting as it has low encumberment and protects against kinetic damage, which is done by most all creatures. It is also inexpensive. Get buffed and with ubese you should have no problems while hunting. I have 77% kinetic ubese and its great for hunting.

Uritel:
If you’re fighting mid and low level PVE, I would say you just need the basic bits of armor. Chestplate, pants, helmet are probably all you’ll need. If you plan on tangling with high end (DWB, Geo Cave, Dathomir in general), I would recommend a full set.

Hell, for that fact, PVE, unless you’re tangling with humanoids, battle druids, etc, I’d say just stick with Ubese for the most part. The only problem with that is, on higher end PVE will chew through even a good set of Advanced Ubese pretty quick. I went through two sets mastering Swordsman back when I still swung the big hammer.

What you’re hunting is probably your best bet solo…that’s my preferred stomping grounds, too.

Skips:

To expand on what Imed stated (I have few discrepancies with the way I’m leveling my Pistoleer, actually), look into a decent DX2 as well. Speed sliced, if you’re a novice pistoleer – Acid damage with an AP of 1. Very nice.

Now, I would recommend hunting with a set of Advanced Ubese and doc buffs. Everything you’re going to be fighting right now should be lair mobs, and that’s fine – they do kinetic damage, the Ubese will keep you alive with far less Encumbrance than a full set of Advanced Composite. Along with Doc buffs and, if you can get ‘em, A musician buff, you won’t notice your HAM dip appreciably for specials, and you should be just fine. I rarely need to buff.

I agree with Imed, go up the pistol techniques line first. Fan shot will be your friend, once you get the hang of the cone effect, and stopping shot works well on lairs. The speed line will come with time (all combat). Personally, I took precision next – I preferred to hit more accurately. With high kinetic armor and buffs, you don’t NEED to dodge.

Unless you have a doc on hand, or are a doc yourself, stay away from creatures that disease and poison. Most of the poisons you’ll come across on Dant are relatively mild – 100 points, but they stack and it can get nasty if you’re not careful. Hurtons, at novice, are probably your bread and butter. Couple types of Voritors (Slinking Hunter and Grassland trackers, I think are the ones that don’t poison/disease).

You said you’re on Kett, so if you need any help, look me up. In game name is Dashiva. I know you said you’re not looking for handouts, and that’s cool, but I’ve probably got a couple extra DX2s lying around, and I’m an Master Doc (at least for the next week/week and a half) so I can help you with the doctor’s buffs. I’m usually on after 7 PM PST.

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier. Life in my world has been crazy. Dashiva, If you want to get rid of one of those DX2's that would be great, but only if you haven't a use for them.

Thank you for your generosity.

I was able to jump on Jak the other day and since Ubese is out of my league right now I bought some Mabari armor and notice a difference. She was able to take more BAF mobs. So I definately will be working toward getting Ubese!

Thanks again!

Yeah, Ubese is great for levelling. Actually, I just finished my template last night, standard Gunslinger template - Master Pistoleer (finished last week), BH Pistols 4, Dirty Fighting 4, and Novice Commando.

Lemme tell ya, the Ranged Defense line from FS skills doesn't hurt, either.

Not sure if I have one of those DX2s left or not. Just look me up online, and I'll be happy to check, I know I have a couple decent pistols I don't use anymore, one way or the other.

everyone underestimates chitin

with kinetic protection that can be pushed just past the 60% mark, it makes a great light armor set if all you need it for is grinding

also if you're grinding faction missions, etc. kliknik shells (found in the geo caves) can yield a suit with under 100 encumberance and about 45-50% base before slicing, but low kinetic, so be sure to get two sets
